Offer to repair unreadable preferences after preserving the original file. Restoring defaults leaves guest files untouched and keeps sharing and port forwarding disabled.
Use the Windows folder picker for install locations and shared folders, matching the recovery controls.
Tested: preference preservation, write failures, guest-file preservation, Go race tests, vet, and Windows build. Visual checks remain pending.
