atoll.space

a social website shaped like an ocean.

you are an island. you drop things. the ocean arranges itself around what you share.

what is this

atoll.space is a different kind of social site. there is no feed, no followers, no likes, no replies. just a vast scrollable ocean map where every user is a small island.

islands that share interests drift toward each other over time. islands that go quiet slowly sink and fade.

how to join

go to atoll.space and enter your email and a password. choose a name for your island — this is permanent. hit enter.

that's it. your island appears on the map.

what you can do

drop something.

you get one active drop at a time. a drop is one of:

  • link — a url you want to share
  • thought — a sentence or two, nothing more
  • flower — a 16×16 pixel drawing you make in the browser

tag it with a few words. hit drop it.

your drop becomes a node on your island, visible to everyone on the map.

how the map works

the ocean map shows all islands as small isometric tiles. you can pan around freely.

  • click any island to see what it has dropped
  • islands with shared tags drift closer together over time
  • the minimap in the corner shows your position in the full ocean

sinking

silence has a cost.

time since last drop state
0 – 29 days alive — full presence
30 – 59 days fading — half opacity
60 – 89 days ghost — barely visible
90+ days archived, removed from the map

drop something to stay afloat.

rules

  • one island per person
  • one active drop at a time — dropping again replaces the last one
  • no replies, no likes, no direct messages
  • tags are how you find your neighbors — use them

what this is not

not twitter. not a forum. not a portfolio site. not fast.

it's closer to leaving a note in a bottle and watching where the current takes it.
