I came here to submit the same feature reaquest. OpenCode is one of the top open source harness for agentic coding. Since many Matlab users have strict privacy requirements, the use of Claude Code or Codex is prohibited in many cases. Supporting open-source harnesses with local LLM would be a game changer.

Thanks for the interest! The MATLAB MCP Server and the skills provided with the toolkit should work with any agentic tool that supports MCP — it's just the automated installation and configuration that is developed and tested with a specific set of AI coding agents. OpenCode supports MCP natively, so you should be able to use it with this toolkit.

We haven't tested this ourselves, but here's an approach that should get you close:

Step 1 — Install using the MATLAB-based installer:

1. Download agenticToolkitInstaller.mltbx from the Simulink Agentic Toolkit releases page
2. Open it in MATLAB to install the add-on
3. Run setupAgenticToolkit("install") and select Gemini CLI as the target agent

This downloads the MCP server binary for your platform and registers the toolkit skills in ~/.agents/skills/.

Step 2 — Add the MCP server to your OpenCode config:

After setup completes, open ~/.matlab/agentic-toolkits/config.json. You'll find your resolved paths:

The timeout of 600000 ms (10 minutes) is important — OpenCode defaults to 5000 ms which is too short for most MATLAB operations.

Skills: OpenCode discovers skills from ~/.agents/skills/, which is the same location the Gemini CLI setup registers them. So OpenCode should detect the toolkit skills automatically — no extra configuration needed.

We don't have plans to add automated setup for OpenCode right now, but if more users would find it useful we're totally open to it. For now, I'll plan to at least update our documentation to be clearer that other tools should work and give pointers like this on how to approach.

Testing

Tested end-to-end on Windows 11 with MATLAB R2024a (113 products licensed), MCP Core Server v0.10.0, opencode v0.x. All MCP tools (\detect_matlab_toolboxes, \evaluate_matlab_code,
un_matlab_file, \check_matlab_code) confirmed working via opencode.
