As as application vendor, I want to specify parameters that are used during deployment but must be provided by the device (i.e. values that are not known when the application is built). This enables these parameters to be provided automatically without requiring a user to locate the information and manually provide it for each deployment.
For example, the hostname of the device is known at deploy time by the device but is not known (and can be different for each installation). There must be a way for the application to require a value to be provided by the device for hostname during the deployment. Another example of this is the storageClass name for helm-based deployments where this needs to be known at deploy time.
This approach should define a common set of parameters to enable interoperability between apps and devices which target the same deployment type.
This common set of parameters:
- must be supplied by all devices if the parameter is not associated with a particular deployment type
- must be supplied by any device that supports the deployment type to which the parameters relate
- may be be used by any application that targets the deployment type to which the parameters relate
The parameter values are not intended to contain sensitive information that would require a means to protect them.
