fix(widget): console preview needs a grant, not the Origin header (N-WID-3) - #1447
N-WID-3: console preview needs a grant, not the Origin header
Issue: a request with Origin: https://breezebuddy.ai (any WIDGET_CONSOLE_ORIGINS) could open a session on a paused widget and skip the store's allowed_origins. Origin can be set by any script, so anyone with a public widget key could keep chatting with a paused agent and spend the merchant's credits.
Fix:
New POST /widget-config/{id}/preview: needs RBAC, with the same access as reading the widget_config. It returns a 15-min preview grant bound to that one widget. The grant is not a session token (typ) and not a console login (no username).
Session create: accepts preview_grant. A live grant for this widget lets a paused widget open and skips the allow-list. The widget token it returns carries a server-signed preview claim.
Session routes: a paused widget is allowed only with that claim. Voice and try-on still refuse paused widgets.
Removed: the console-Origin rule and WIDGET_CONSOLE_ORIGINS.
Merchant impact: none for storefronts. Console preview keeps working via the grant.
Authorized widget owners can generate short-lived preview access for a specific widget, allowing paused widgets to be previewed.
Bug Fixes
Preview access is now validated against the widget, and console origin alone no longer grants access to paused widgets or bypasses site restrictions. Storefront sessions continue to use standard access rules.
…WID-3)
A request whose Origin was a console origin (WIDGET_CONSOLE_ORIGINS) could
open a widget session on a PAUSED widget and skip the store's
allowed_origins. Origin is set freely by any non-browser client, so anyone
holding a public widget key could keep chatting with a paused agent and
spend the merchant's credits.
- POST /widget-config/{id}/preview (RBAC, same access as reading the
widget_config) mints a 15 min preview grant bound to one widget_config.
It is neither a session token (typ) nor an RBAC token (no username).
- Session create accepts preview_grant: a live grant for this widget lets
a paused widget open and skips the allow-list; the minted widget token
carries a server-signed preview claim.
- Session-bound routes allow a paused widget only on that claim
(voice and try-on still refuse paused widgets).
- The console-Origin rule and WIDGET_CONSOLE_ORIGINS are removed.
Merge after the loom change that sends the grant is deployed; until then
console previews of paused widgets would fail.

Widget preview access now uses short-lived, widget-bound grants instead of console-origin recognition. A validated grant can authorize preview of a paused widget and bypass its origin allow-list. Widget session tokens carry preview status, which session handlers use when resolving widget configuration.

Adds a 15-minute, widget-bound preview grant and a response schema. An RBAC-protected endpoint reads the widget configuration through the existing access-checked handler, then returns a grant. Tests cover grant validation, token types, expiration, and endpoint access.
Grant validation and configuration resolution app/api/routers/breeze_buddy/widget_common.py, app/core/config/static.py, app/api/routers/breeze_buddy/widget/handlers.py, tests/test_widget_preview_grant.py
Configuration resolution validates the grant against the widget ID and returns the configuration with preview status. Valid previews bypass origin validation and can resolve paused widgets when allowed. Console-origin configuration is removed.
Preview state in widget sessions app/api/routers/breeze_buddy/widget/handlers.py, tests/test_widget_preview_paused_agent.py
Session creation passes the resolved preview status into the widget token. Session-scoped handlers use the token’s preview status and widget configuration ID. Tests check paused-widget access based on the preview flag.

Deploy the grant-capable console first and recreate existing paused-widget preview sessions after deployment. With that coordination, the remaining disruption is bounded and storefront access is unaffected.

Pre-deploy preview sessions get 401 on paused widgets after deploy.
Console preview sessions created before this change hold a widget token without the preview claim. After deploy, that token resolves to preview=False, and a paused widget returns 401. Before this change, the console Origin header alone allowed the same request.
The server does not reissue these tokens. An old token stays accepted until it expires, up to 24 hours. Paused-widget access returns only after the client starts a new preview session. Deploy the console that sends the preview grant first, then tell operators to start new preview sessions. Storefront requests to a paused widget already return 401 before and after this change, so this cutover does not affect them.

Add an HTTP-level test for the preview endpoint's auth gate.
The preview tests call config_handlers.mint_preview_grant_handler directly. No inspected test sends a request to POST /widget-config/{widget_config_id}/preview, so the route dependency Depends(get_current_user_with_rbac) is not exercised. Removing that dependency would not fail any inspected test.
Add a TestClient test against the widget-config router that asserts these exact outcomes:
Cross-merchant credentials: a valid token for a merchant that does not own the widget returns 403. The handler's read check raises 403 in validate_template_access.
No credentials: the status comes from FastAPI's HTTPBearer() rejection, not from the explicit 401 branch. Assert the status that the pinned FastAPI version returns for a missing Authorization header.
Use a non-admin merchant user for the cross-merchant case. The admin role returns early from the access check and would not test the rejection.
