johnreine/README.md

I love to build things. I enjoy the pain, the organization, the attention to detail, the imagination, and most of all the people. I like getting groups of people together to accomplish great things. I have a knack for attracting amazing talent and keeping it. I am an engineer managing engineers and can put their perspective first. I have teams make up their own timelines, and review it regularly. I push people to take charge when they can.

I have a lifelong passion for leading teams to design, prototype, iterate, test, manufacture and support hardware products that are brought to life with crucial software. I believe in putting product safety at the forefront by building ongoing support and testing. I understand the value of regularly reviewing the user reliability and safety statistics of previous products and using the lessons learned as a foundation for the next generation of product.

For 30 years I have designed products and led teams to manufacture, sell and support those products. My career began with a hardware/software company which I co-founded with my college roommate based on an MP3 player I had built. When I left the company 12 years later we had 1,200 dealers around the world installing our whole house audio server, our video server and our whole house audio control and distribution system with an annual revenue of $10M. I played a role in all phases of product development, from hiring our software and hardware teams to managing product design and development to setting up in house manufacturing at all of our different growth stages.

At Activision I worked with the manufacturing team to design, prototype and test a next generation guitar for Guitar Hero and received a patent for my work on RFID and magnet placement for Skylanders Swap Force characters.

At Woods Hole Oceanographic Insitute I organized many different teams to accomplish very difficult goals. I recruited high school students to help with my open source glider. I always had college students in the lab, learning and contributing. I supervised 7-8 engineers and technicians at a time, and was the person who people came to for a career reset.
