⚡ Bolt: Optimize SongEditor re-renders#36
Conversation
Extracted `SongHeader` and `SongControls` from `SongEditor.tsx` into separate, memoized components. This prevents the static UI elements (header, controls, stats) from being re-rendered and diffed on every `timeupdate` (frame) during playback, isolating the high-frequency updates to `AudioPlayer` and the `SongEditor` wrapper. - Create `src/components/SongHeader.tsx` - Create `src/components/SongControls.tsx` - Refactor `src/components/SongEditor.tsx` to use new components and memoized callbacks. Code Review
This is a great performance optimization. You've correctly identified an opportunity to prevent unnecessary re-renders in the SongEditor by extracting the header and controls into memoized components. The use of useCallback for the event handlers passed as props is well-executed and crucial for this optimization to be effective. The code is clean and the refactoring significantly improves the component's efficiency during audio playback. I have one minor suggestion to improve the component structure for future maintainability.

For better component encapsulation and to avoid potential layout issues in the future, it's a good practice for a component to return a single root element. While using a Fragment is valid here since you're replacing two adjacent divs, wrapping the content in a single div would make this component more robust and easier to style or position as a single unit if it's reused elsewhere.

⚡ Bolt: Optimized SongEditor rendering performance
💡 What: Extracted the header and controls sections of the
SongEditorinto memoized components (SongHeaderandSongControls).🎯 Why: The
SongEditorcomponent re-renders on every audiotimeupdate(approx 60fps) because it consumescurrentTime. This caused unnecessary VDOM diffing for static elements like the header, inputs, and buttons.📊 Impact: Reduces the "diffing area" of the
SongEditoron every frame significantly. Only theAudioPlayerand the top-level container now participate in the update cycle during playback.🔬 Measurement: Verified that the UI still functions correctly (creating songs, editing title, toggling notes) using Playwright. The number of React reconciliations for static trees should drop to zero during playback.
