Base salary is your income floor, but don't fixate on the monthly number alone. Annual total compensation (base × months + bonuses) is the real figure to compare.
2. Social Insurance & Housing Fund — The Hidden Gap
Two offers may differ by ¥2,000 in monthly salary, but if the social insurance contribution base differs, the long-term gap can be multiples larger. Check: Is the base your actual salary? Is the housing fund ratio 5% or 12%?
Under China's Labor Contract Law, probation cannot exceed 6 months, and probation pay must be ≥80% of the formal salary. A long probation or steep pay cut raises real risk in your first months.
Single rest day vs. double rest days: ¥3,000 more per month might still mean a lower hourly rate. More money and no time to spend it vs. less money but time to live — two completely different lives.
