The basic example is intended to show extremely basic usage, which is why error handling is not included in the source here. Other examples do include it, so I believe this information is already covered in a more relevant space of the documentation. |

I updated basic_example.c to check for errors when opening the log file and writing the first message, and on failure the example prints an error, releases resources, and exits with EXIT_FAILURE.
