Space Timeline is a Web application that lets users explore outer space directly from their browser!
Just enter a date, and the app generates a beautiful, AI-enhanced timeline using data from NASA and OpenRouter.

🛠️ Local Setup

1. Prerequisites

Before starting, you’ll need API keys from:

• NASA API
  Click “Get Started” and complete the signup to generate a key.

• OpenRouter
  Sign up, go to your profile’s Keys section, and create an API key.

2. Clone the Repository

git clone git@github.com:fspasovski/nasa-app.git
cd nasa-app

3. Configure environment variables

Create a .env file inside the backend/ directory and add the following:

NASA_API_KEY=yourNasaApiKey
OPEN_ROUTER_API_KEY=yourOpenRouterApiKey
OPEN_ROUTER_MODEL=mistralai/mistral-7b-instruct
DB_URI=mongodb://root:5eT41aHy2UnYsZIaAtl8a@localhost:27017/space_app_db?authSource=admin
PORT=3000

Replace placeholder values with your actual API keys and database URI.

4. Run the app

docker compose up -d

5. Open in browser

Once the containers are running, access the app at: http://localhost:5173
