Summary

Document how to configure and deploy Interactive Domain Join and Zero-touch Domain Join, including organizational unit (OU) placement, what happens in Windows after the join, the outcomes a technician can see and how to troubleshoot them.

Reason

Related to foundry-osd/foundry#218. These pages describe the feature added by foundry-osd/foundry#399, and Foundry OSD links to them as contextual help.

Main changes

  • Add five pages: a Domain Join overview, one page per mode, the Deploy-side guide and a troubleshooting page, each listed in SUMMARY.md. The Deploy guide describes the Domain join wizard step and its summary category.
  • Write them as usage documentation for administrators and technicians: what to set up, what to click, what the technician sees, and what to do when something goes wrong, without implementation detail.
  • Explain the prerequisites, the difference between technician-entered and media-protected credentials, listing several domains with a default, the shared and dedicated join accounts, adding or importing the OUs of each domain, the default OU, renaming an OU, how listing several domains or OUs makes the technician choose among them, and how an existing computer account is moved.
  • Describe what happens in Windows: after a verified join, setup ends on the sign-in screen without a local account; after a failed join, the account creation page is kept.
  • Describe the separate join, OU placement and membership results, that a failed join is a warning that does not stop Windows installation, and how to handle each console message, an interrupted join and a pending credential cleanup.
  • Update the related Autopilot, media, General, deployment profile, machine naming, unattend, post-installation, security and supported-version pages.
  • Use the vocabulary and labels of the interface throughout: domains, organizational units, and the default domain and OU.
  • Add five screenshots with demonstration data: the page before it is enabled (overview), the Zero-touch and Interactive pages, and the Deploy step on Interactive and on Zero-touch media. No screenshot placeholder remains.
  • Rename Protected deployment to Password protection on every page, as the General page labels it, with Deployment password for its field. The heading anchor in foundry-osd/general.md moves from #protected-deployment to #password-protection; the nine internal links follow.

Testing

  • Checked every Markdown page of the repository: 366 relative links and their anchors resolve, and all five new pages are in SUMMARY.md.
  • git diff --check against main passed.
  • Interface labels and console messages were matched to the current en-US strings and runtime messages of the implementation pull request.

Validation not run and reason:

  • Rendered output: not previewed in GitBook; this repository has no build or link-check script.

  • Live help URLs: the contextual-help links from Foundry OSD cannot be checked until these pages are published.

Use the vocabulary of the interface throughout the Domain Join guidance:
organizational units, the OU list, the default OU and technician choice.
Rename the affected headings and update the links that point to them.

Foundry Deploy now collects Domain Join credentials and the OU choice in
a wizard step before the summary instead of a dialog at Start.

…s and technicians

Replace implementation wording with task-based guidance: what to
configure, what the technician sees, how to read the outcome in
installed Windows and what to do for each failure. Correct the
statement that the disk erase confirmation shows the domain, and align
the related pages and the screenshot instructions with the current
behavior.

The General page labels the setting Password protection and its field Deployment password; the pages called it Protected deployment. Rename it everywhere, move the anchor, and quote the two Domain Join messages as Foundry OSD shows them.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replace the four screenshot placeholders with captures of the two Foundry OSD pages and of the Deploy step, and add the Zero-touch variant of that step. The overview now shows the page before it is enabled; the domain and OU lists are shown on the two mode pages.

The text used corp.example.test and CORP\deployment-join while the screenshots show corp.contoso.com and djoin@corp.contoso.com.
