<search_synthesis>
The reexport-wasmparser feature in the wasmtime-rwasm crate is a feature flag used to control the re-export of the wasmparser dependency [1]. When enabled, this feature makes the wasmparser crate available as a public dependency or re-exported module within the wasmtime-rwasm crate's public API [1]. In the context of Cargo.toml configuration, this is typically defined as a feature in the [features] table, which allows users of the crate to opt-in to this dependency exposition if they require access to the underlying wasmparser functionality directly through the wasmtime-rwasm interface [1]. Based on the available data for the wasmtime-rwasm crate, this is a standard conditional compilation feature intended to provide flexibility in dependency management and public API surface area [1].

Publish wasmtime-rwasm 45.0.0-rwasm.3 and refresh Cargo.lock. crates.io lists 45.0.0-rwasm.1 as the latest release, and 45.0.0-rwasm.3 is not available. The lockfile resolves 45.0.0-rwasm.2, which does not satisfy either manifest's requirement. Cargo cannot resolve the root or fuzz manifest until .3 is published with the reexport-wasmparser feature required by the root manifest.

The rwasm VM stops an execution at `N_MAX_RECURSION_DEPTH` (1024) frames or when the frames on the call chain exceed its value-stack window (8205 slots). The Wasmtime backend only ran out of native stack, so a recursion 1024 deep or two nested frames of 5000 slots ran there and trapped `StackOverflow` on rwasm (`tests/stack-overflow.rs::stack_limits`, red before this change). Requires wasmtime-rwasm 45.0.0-rwasm.3, whose Cranelift backend keeps the call depth and the frame base in the store and traps exactly where the rwasm VM does (`Config::rwasm_stack_limits`). On the rwasm side: - `ModuleParser::frame_heights` returns the `StackCheck` of every function; every Wasmtime compile attaches them as the `rwasm.frames` custom section the engine requires. `compile_wasmtime_module` therefore runs the rwasm translator (without the entrypoint and start-section policies of the full front end): a module the translator rejects, or a config without an import linker for a module with imports, no longer compiles on Wasmtime. - `compile_wasmtime_module_on(engine, ..)` compiles a sibling module for `WasmtimeExecutor::instantiate`, which only accepts modules of the executor's engine. - The host trampolines check the import trampoline's frame (the parameters plus the syscall fuel prologue's temporaries, then the result slots) on every path into an import, next to the syscall fuel; `wasmtime_syscall_handler` takes the import's result types for that. - `WasmtimeExecutor` resets the counters before every call (the export runs as the outermost frame) and before instantiation (`start` runs one frame deep). `WASMTIME_MAX_WASM_STACK` stays as the native backstop. `Cargo.lock` still pins 45.0.0-rwasm.2 until the fork release is published.

The fork release that emulates the rwasm stack limits is published, so the lockfile follows the requirement of the previous commit.

Summary
The rwasm VM stops an execution at
N_MAX_RECURSION_DEPTH(1024) frames or when the frames on the call chain exceed its value-stack window (N_MAX_STACK_SIZE + N_STACK_TRAMPOLINE_HEADROOM, 8205 slots). The Wasmtime backend had no counterpart for either limit: it only ran out of native stack, which #212 sized so that everything rwasm admits fits. The gap was one-directional and reachable from trivial valid Wasm: a recursion 1024 deep, or two nested frames of 5000 slots, ran on Wasmtime and trappedStackOverflowon rwasm (tests/stack-overflow.rs::stack_limits, red before this change).This PR closes the gap together with a change in the
wasmtime-rwasmfork: the Wasmtime backend now trapsStackOverflowexactly where the rwasm VM does.Fork side (
wasmtime-rwasm 45.0.0-rwasm.3, fork PR fluentlabs-xyz/wasmtime#13, stacked on fork PR #12)Config::rwasm_stack_limitsmakes Cranelift keep the rwasm call depth and frame base inVMStoreContextand check them where rwasm does:rwasm.framescustom section) exceed the window, like rwasm'sStackCheck;call_indirectandcall_refthe depth check sits between the null check and the signature check, as on rwasm; tail calls keep both counters likeReturnCallInternal;code_snippets, thei64operators rwasm runs in a hidden snippet frame (rwasm_snippet_frames: one frame, two for div/rem which call the sharedUDivMod64core) check that frame's depth and height before the operator runs.Store::rwasm_stack_countersexposes the counters to the host, which checks the import trampoline's frame itself.rwasm side
ModuleParser::frame_heightsreturns theStackCheckof every function in Wasm index order; every Wasmtime compile attaches them as therwasm.framessection the engine requires (with_frame_heights_section).compile_wasmtime_modulenow runs the rwasm translator (parse only, without the entrypoint and start-section policies of the full front end). A module the translator rejects (oversized frame, unsupported local type, unresolved import) no longer compiles on Wasmtime, and a config without an import linker no longer compiles a module with imports.compile_wasmtime_module_on(engine, ..)compiles a sibling module forWasmtimeExecutor::instantiate, which only accepts modules of the executor's engine;wasmtime_engineis exported for it.wasmtime_syscall_handlertakes the import's result types for that.WasmtimeExecutorresets the counters before every call (the export runs as the outermost frame, as rwasm's entrypoint tail-calls it) and before instantiation (startruns one frame deep).WASMTIME_MAX_WASM_STACKstays as the native backstop;docs/pipeline.mddescribes the emulation instead of the backend difference.Tests
tests/stack-overflow.rs::stack_limitspins both engines to the same outcome at every boundary: direct andcall_indirectrecursion at 1023/1024 frames (plus 2000 and 4000), tail-call recursion 100 000 deep, the hiddeni64snippet frames against the depth limit (mulone frame,div_s/rem_utwo) and against the window (add,mul,div_u,rem_s,shl,rotl), two nested frames at the window, and the import trampoline's frame with a linear fuel schedule.src/wasmtime/tests.rschecks the section encoding and pins the fork's snippet table toSnippetdefinitions; six existing tests that built modules outside the rwasm front end now compile them through it.Compatibility notes
wasmtime-rwasmrequirement bumped to45.0.0-rwasm.3(also infuzz/Cargo.toml). The fork release is not published yet, soCargo.lockstill pins45.0.0-rwasm.2and CI cannot resolve the dependency until it is;cargo update -p wasmtime-rwasmafter the release. Rebased on devel after thewasmparser0.248 move (build(deps): move the compiler to wasmparser 0.248 #216), which lets the snippet-table test use the sharedwasmparsertypes directly.wasmtime_syscall_handlergains aresult_typesparameter;compile_wasmtime_modulerequires the module to pass the rwasm translator.ModuleParser::frame_heights,rwasm::wasmtime::{compile_wasmtime_module_on, wasmtime_engine}.Verification
