Your platform for finding and registering for live chess tournaments.
What is it?
Ideally, Over The Board is a global and multilingual platform dedicated to uniting the world of live chess. Our goal is to simplify how players and organizers interact with tournaments; we want to create a digital meeting point that connects the player to the tournament.
Why Over The Board?
The term "OTB" Over The Board is widely recognized in the chess community to refer to in-person games, hence the name! There is no single correct way to pronounce OTB. Other names were considered and happily discarded: ChessHub, ChessMeet, Chess Tournaments, LocalChess, and YourChess.
- For Players: To make the process of finding and registering for live chess tournaments quick and intuitive.
- For Organizers: To provide an easy-to-use tool to promote tournaments, manage registrations, and reach a global audience of players.
- For the Community: To unify information from various federations (FIDE, USCF, CBX, etc.) in a single place, promoting the universality of chess.
-
Phase 1: The MVP (Minimum Viable Product)
- Development of a simple interface for searching tournaments.
- Integration with a single federation to retrieve data.
- Basic search and viewing functionality.
-
Phase 2: Internationalization
- Integration with the two main international platforms, FIDE and ChessResults.
- Full translation of the site into at least 5 different languages.
- Expansion to allow for easy integration of multiple federations and clubs.
-
Phase 3: Growth
- Creation of user profiles and a tournament registration system.
- Functionalities for organizers to publish and manage their own events.
- Real-time tournament results tracking features.
Our visual identity was created by me, Emerson! It was designed to reflect the values of Ease, Modernism, and Speed.
- Logo: It is a minimalist chessboard. Commonly, websites, apps, and communities use a chess piece as their symbol, like a pawn or a knight. Our goal is to be the board that allows these pieces to play! It's the board that enables Pawns, Knights, Bishops, Rooks, Kings, and Queens to play!
- Typography: We use the Oswald font for the title and Lato for smaller texts, ensuring a professional, clear, and highly readable look.
- Slogan: "Your platform for finding and registering for live chess tournaments."
This is an Open Source project. If you are a developer, designer, or simply a chess enthusiast, your contribution is very welcome!
