Import by path copies the video, contradicting the guide, and records an absolute path to the copy #36
docs/guide/editing.md:153 says import by path "reads a video where it is, without copying it". In the code (spool/routes.py:896, spool/media.py:567) keep_input copies the video into input/video/, and the shots record an absolute originalFile for that copy. If the project folder is opened from another mount, the recorded path no longer resolves and the project breaks.
Decision needed:
Reference the source in place (and stop the copy), or keep the copy.
Either way, store a project-relative path for the copy and correct the guide.
Related: #11 (path import is one blocking request).
Source: PR #35, report section "N-04" (report). Line numbers refer to main at 7caf5c9, before the PR.
Implementation status (2026-11-07)
PR #35 retains copied path imports and stores project-relative original/shot/audio references. Four regressions include move/reopen plus real FFmpeg baking; ordinary uploads and legacy external references remain supported. The guide is corrected. Review/merge remains open.
