Landed on main as 896e8b2 via the integration train in #55.

Rebased locally rather than squash-merged so the commit carries the maintainer's SSH signature (verified=true) instead of GitHub's web-flow PGP key; dependabot remains the commit author. The SHA differs from this branch's, which is why GitHub cannot auto-close this PR.

Sequenced first in the train deliberately: #51 cannot land before it. See #55 for the MVS reasoning.
