Privacy Policy

NoPlugin uses Google Analytics for sending usage data to its developers. The data collected is not personally-identifiable by the developers (a random UUID is generated for each user), does not include any browsing history, and it is not sold or transferred to anyone.

Collected data

The only information collected is what types of files/embeds are detected by NoPlugin. When NoPlugin loads an old media embed, it sends the media type (e.g. Windows Media Player, QuickTime, Flash, etc.) to Google Analytics. You can see an example of this here. The analytics also includes basic (anonymized) information about the user, including the browser, operating system, region, language, and so on.

In NoPlugin 7.0 or higher, when an unrecognized Flash file is detected, the analytics data will include the name of the file (e.g. "player.swf"). This is so future versions of NoPlugin may be able to replace some of them with HTML5 versions.

Opt-out

A setting for disabling all data collection is in development. See this issue for more information.

Permissions

Here's every permission NoPlugin needs and what it uses it for:

• Read and change your data on all websites you visit: NoPlugin requires access to every page you see so that it can search for all media embeds.
• Tabs: This is used to turn compatibility mode on and off in specific tabs.
• Manage your downloads: When you ask NoPlugin to download Adobe Flash Projector, NoPlugin uses this permission to download the correct version for your operating system.
• Open downloaded files: The notification for downloaded files includes a button to open the file.
• Context menu: NoPlugin adds a switch for compatibility mode to the right-click menu for web pages.
• Display notifications: When downloaded files are done, NoPlugin shows a notification. (removed in NoPlugin 7.0)
