Follow-ups from the review of #1950.

Problem

  1. Renewal stopped in transient states. TerminalLogoutPrompt renewed its Auto Login suppression only from the callback inside Rs2Player.logoutWithoutAutoLoginStep, and the step runs that callback only at LOGGED_IN. If the client stayed in CONNECTION_LOST or LOADING for more than 15 s, the step kept returning INPUT_BLOCKED and nothing renewed the request. The request expired, and when the client dropped to LOGIN_SCREEN, Auto Login logged back in.
  2. The first request could be a no-op. If another source already had a request pending, the prompt's first request() did nothing, because repeated requests do not extend the deadline. An example is Rs2InventorySetup → Rs2Player.logoutWithoutAutoLogin more than 10 s earlier. The prompt's first renewal came 5 s later, which could be after the old deadline had passed.
  3. No suppression when a stop first saw the login screen. This happens when the client disconnects, or Break Handler logs out, before the prompt reaches LOGGED_IN. The stop completed without requesting suppression, so Auto Login logged in straight away. That contradicts the purpose of a terminal stop, which is to stay logged out.
  4. fix(logout): keep Auto Login suppressed while a terminal logout is delayed #1950 added Javadoc lines to AutoLoginSuppressionRequest and TerminalLogoutPrompt.

Change

  • (1) TerminalLogoutPrompt.tick now renews from its own tick. After any attempt that has not reached the login screen (BANK_CLOSING, LOGOUT_REQUESTED or INPUT_BLOCKED), it renews once the last request or renewal is 5 s old, whatever the game state. As before, it only renews a request this stop has made. A renewal still extends only a request that is pending, so a script start, Auto Login restart or manual login that cleared it stays cleared.
  • (2) A stop's first suppression is now a request followed immediately by a renewal. The request moves ALLOWED to pending. The renewal restarts the deadline on a request another source already left pending.
  • (3) Decision: hold the stop logged out. A stop whose prompt sees the login screen before it has requested anything posts the new AutoLoginSuppressionRequest.loggedOut() before it notifies. AutoLoginSuppression.holdLoggedOut(gameState) moves straight to the existing suppressed LOGGED_OUT state, but only if Auto Login also reads LOGIN_SCREEN. If a login has already finished, it does nothing. The hold clears the same way as a completed terminal logout: on a manual login, a script start or an Auto Login restart. Reasons:
    • A terminal stop's purpose is to stay logged out. A disconnect or a Break Handler logout that wins the race against the prompt's first tick should not turn the stop into "log back in and idle".
    • This does not bring back the fix(logout): keep Auto Login suppressed while a terminal logout is delayed #1950 bug. That bug was a pending request made at the login screen: it could never complete and blocked Auto Login for 15 s after a restart. The hold is a completed state, not a pending request.
    • The hold is limited:
      • The plain logoutWithoutAutoLoginStep still requests nothing at LOGIN_SCREEN. TerminalLogoutStepTest.loginScreenConfirmsLogoutWithoutAnUncompletableSuppression is unchanged.
      • The hold only comes from the prompt, once per stop, and only if that stop never requested suppression. If the stop did request, its request either already completed at the login screen or was cleared by a restart, and that clear is respected.
      • A tick from a stop that was reset or replaced mid-tick never holds. This uses the existing stop counter.
  • (4) Removed the Javadoc lines fix(logout): keep Auto Login suppressed while a terminal logout is delayed #1950 added. The Javadoc that existed before fix(logout): keep Auto Login suppressed while a terminal logout is delayed #1950 is kept.
  • AutoLoginSuppressionRequest now uses a private Kind enum. new AutoLoginSuppressionRequest(), renewal() and isRenewal() are unchanged, and loggedOut() / isLoggedOut() are new. AutoLoginPlugin routes the new kind to AutoLoginScript.holdAutoLoginLoggedOut(). AutoLogin bumped to 1.0.7.
  • The public API used by Hub PR 597 is unchanged: begin, active, message, tick(), reset and tick(Supplier, Consumer). The supplier overload still never suppresses.

Testing

  • New tests, each confirmed to fail when only that fix is reverted in TerminalLogoutPrompt. They use a fake suppression with the real deadline semantics: a request does not extend a pending deadline, and a renewal extends only a pending one.
    • suppressionIsRenewedWhileATransientStateBlocksTheLogoutStep (1): the first step requests, then the step returns INPUT_BLOCKED without calling back for 45 s. With renewal back inside the step callback, it fails with suppression lapsed at 15000 ms.
    • firstSuppressionExtendsARequestAnotherSourceAlreadyMade (2): another source requests at 0 s and the prompt starts at 11 s. Without the request-then-renew change, it fails with suppression lapsed at 15200 ms. Three updated tests that check the request/renew order fail as well.
    • stopFirstSeenAtTheLoginScreenHoldsAutoLoginBeforeNotifying (3): expects [hold, notify]. Without the hold, the result is [notify].
  • Other new tests:
    • stopWithAPendingRequestDoesNotHoldAtTheLoginScreen and supplierTickNeverSuppresses.
    • restartFromAnotherThread… now also checks that a stale tick does not hold.
    • AutoLoginSuppressionTest: the hold stays suppressed until a manual login, is cleared by a restart, does nothing outside LOGIN_SCREEN, and completes a request another source left pending.
    • AutoLoginPluginSupplyStopTest routes loggedOut().
  • Full suite: ./gradlew :client:runUnitTests --offline gave 334 classes, 2360 tests, 0 failures, 0 errors, 2 skipped. This includes ClientThreadGuardrailTest, with no baseline change.
  • Live test: shaded jar from this branch, F2P account. Auto Login was already enabled in the profile and logged in on its configured world. A hot-deployed probe used the real event bus and the real AutoLoginScript, read isSuppressed() by reflection, and drove the prompt through its package-private throttledTick.
    • A, control. The prompt sent a request but no renewals, with the step returning INPUT_BLOCKED after the first call. Suppressed was true at 14.0 s and false at 16.0 s.
    • A, fix (1). Same steps, but renewals now come from the prompt tick. There was 1 request and the renewal count rose to 5. Suppressed was true at 5, 10, 14, 16, 20 and 25 s, and false after reset() and resume.
    • B, fix (2). Another source posted a plain request at 0 s and the prompt began at 11 s. The prompt's first suppression was 1 request + 1 renewal. Suppressed was true at 14.0, 15.5, 16.5, 20 and 26 s. Without the extension, the 0 s request would have lapsed at 15 s.
    • C, fix (3).
      • With scripts paused, the probe ran a plain Rs2Player.logout(), which reached LOGIN_SCREEN in 401 ms. At this point suppressed was false.
      • The plain step at the login screen returned LOGGED_OUT with 0 requests.
      • A real prompt tick, using the real step, completed the stop with 0 requests, 0 renewals and 1 hold. Suppressed was then true.
      • With scripts unpaused, the client stayed on LOGIN_SCREEN and suppressed at 5, 15, 30 and 45 s. Auto Login logged no attempt in that time.
      • After resume, which is what a script start does, Auto Login logged in again 6.5 s after unpausing.
    • No errors in client.log during the run. The probe was undeployed and the client stopped.
  • Not verified:
    • No real CONNECTION_LOST or LOADING stall. In A the transient state was simulated by a step that returns INPUT_BLOCKED while the game was really LOGGED_IN.
    • No real Inventory Setup supply failure. In B the other source was a directly posted request.
    • No real disconnect or Break Handler logout. In C the stop's first view of the login screen came from a plain logout while scripts were paused.
    • Hub PR 597 was not rebuilt against this branch. It only uses the unchanged public methods.

… state

TerminalLogoutPrompt renewed its suppression request only from inside
logoutWithoutAutoLoginStep, which reaches the callback only at LOGGED_IN.
A client stuck in CONNECTION_LOST or LOADING for more than 15 s let the
request lapse, and Auto Login logged back in once the client dropped to
the login screen. The prompt now renews from its own tick on every
attempt that has not yet seen the login screen.

The prompt's first suppression is now a request followed by a renewal,
so a request another source already left pending (for example
Rs2Player.logoutWithoutAutoLogin from Inventory Setup) gets a fresh
deadline instead of lapsing before the prompt's first renewal.

A terminal stop whose prompt first sees the login screen without ever
having requested suppression (disconnect or break-handler logout) now
posts AutoLoginSuppressionRequest.loggedOut(). AutoLogin moves straight
to its suppressed logged-out state if it is still on the login screen,
and resumes on a manual login, a script start or an AutoLogin restart.
The plain logoutWithoutAutoLoginStep still requests nothing at the login
screen, and a stop that was reset or replaced mid-tick never holds.

Trim the Javadoc lines added in #1950 and bump AutoLogin to 1.0.7.

Walkthrough

Auto-login suppression requests now distinguish normal requests, renewals, and logged-out events. A logged-out event holds suppression when the game is at the login screen. Terminal logout processing separates initial suppression requests from renewals and can hold auto-login when a stop first reaches the logged-out state without a prior suppression request. Tests cover suppression state changes, logout retries, callback order, and restart races.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 8b6ae

After a terminal stop, Auto Login can resume at the login screen if the prompt is not ticked for more than 15 seconds before logout completes. A possible race could also post a stale hold for a stop that was already replaced. Address the expired-hold case before merging.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Hold suppression when an earlier request has expired.

If more than PENDING_LOGOUT_MILLIS passes between ticks, Auto Login can expire the earlier request. A subsequent LOGGED_OUT result still has suppressionRequested == true, so this branch skips the hold. Auto Login can then resume at the login screen after a terminal stop. Issue the logged-out hold on completion regardless of whether this stop previously requested suppression; holdLoggedOut already checks the current game state.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Keep the stop check and callback dispatch atomic.

If another thread calls reset() after this check, the old tick can post its request after the reset. markSuppressed() rejects the old stop, but it cannot retract the posted event. The same gap exists before renewal and the logged-out hold on Line 89. In particular, a stale hold can block Auto Login for the new stop. Serialize each stop check with its callback, or make the event consumer reject stale stop tokens.
