Feat/client UI console and panel state - #1939
Conversation
The toggleable console's open state and the selected sidebar tab are persisted (clientConsoleOpen, and clientSidebarTab keyed by the nav button's tooltip) and restored on startup - the console in show(), the tab in addNavigation as plugins register their panels. Inserting the first sidebar tab makes JTabbedPane select index 0, which looks like the user picking a tab and unset the tab just restored, so saving is suppressed while navigation is being inserted or removed. That is what the old removingNavigation flag already did for removal, hence the rename to updatingNavigation. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The console opens on the latest log line and follows new ones as they arrive. Scrolling up stops it, so output can be read while a script keeps logging, and scrolling back to the bottom resumes following. Whether to follow is decided by what the user does, never by measuring the scroll position: under a flood the view trails the document, and reading that as "the user scrolled up" leaves the console parked while lines keep arriving. Appends are buffered into one insert per event queue pass, since a line per pass schedules a layout and repaint each, and a busy script logs faster than the queue can run them. WalkthroughClientUI now persists sidebar tab selection and console visibility. LogConsolePanel batches incoming text, clears pending text when the panel is cleared, and applies document limits based on whether the view follows the tail. It also tracks scrolling and retries deferred snaps to the newest line. Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to Users reading earlier console output can be pulled back to the latest line when new logs arrive. Fix tail-following before merging. Pre-merge checks |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Stop following when the user navigates in the text area.
These listeners track wheel input and scrollbar mouse input, but not keyboard navigation or dragging a selection in textArea. If either action moves the view up, followTail stays true. The next log batch moves the caret to the end and snaps the view back down. Track those user actions without treating programmatic snaps as user scrolling. (docs.oracle.com)

Auto-scroll the console to the latest logs
The in-client console now opens on the latest log line and follows new ones as they arrive. Scrolling up stops auto-following, allowing output to be read while a script continues logging. Scrolling back to the bottom resumes following.
Previously, the console either forced the view back to the bottom while you were reading, or — under a heavy log flood — stopped partway up and stayed there while new lines continued arriving.
Auto-follow is now controlled by user interaction rather than scroll-position measurements. During a log flood, the view can legitimately lag behind the document for a moment. Interpreting that lag as the user having scrolled up caused the console to abandon the latest logs.
Log appends are also buffered into a single insert per event-queue pass. Previously, each line scheduled its own layout and repaint. When a busy script logged faster than the event queue could process updates, the text area's laid-out size fell hundreds of lines behind the document.
Remember the open console and sidebar tab across restarts
The client now restores the console's visibility and the selected sidebar tab across restarts:
Both settings are persisted alongside the existing window-state settings using
clientConsoleOpenandclientSidebarTab. The latter is keyed by the navigation button's tooltip. This follows the same approach as RuneLite's existing
clientSidebarClosedstate.
