Personal archive and portfolio for Alamir Jihad St.Michael.
Live site: https://byalamir.github.io
BY ALAMIR is a permanent home for work across writing, research, music, design, cultural analysis, and creative development.
The site is intentionally built as an archive rather than a marketing funnel. The visual identity can be expressive, but the writing should stay restrained, editorial, and descriptive rather than promotional.
Mission statement:
NO ALGORITHM OWNS YOUR CREATIVITY.
- Dark green / black editorial archive
- Formal minimalism
- Large typography
- Multidisciplinary hero artwork connecting music, fashion, and research
- CSS-generated geometric hero retained as a fallback
- Black-bar / redaction motif
- Bone / cream contrast sections
- Responsive desktop and mobile layouts
- Compact mobile menu exposing the complete site navigation
- Dedicated horizontal Writing archive page with platform-specific publication destinations
- Hero artwork used as the mobile home-screen app identity on iOS and Android
- Semi-transparent ARCHIVE FOOTFALL lifetime visit counter before the mission statement
- Plain HTML and CSS, deployed through GitHub Pages
Selected essays, frameworks, criticism, and research across psychology, sociology, culture, media, politics, and relationships.
The homepage keeps three selected pieces as a visual preview. The full archive lives at /writing/, where each piece is presented as a horizontally stacked editorial card with its category/type header, title, synopsis, and only the publication destinations that actually exist for that piece.
The public Writing archive is publication-led rather than platform-gated. A piece can appear once it has a public destination, and each card renders only the platforms where that piece is available. The current baseline is:
- Don’t Let Emotion Get Ahead of the Law — X + Substack
- Recursive Reality Enclosure — X + Substack
- The “Relationship” Problem — Substack only
Other completed or developing pieces can remain in the internal content registry without appearing publicly until their publication destinations are ready.
R&B music, criticism, discovery, playlists, reviews, and release coverage through the wider LVRS ecosystem.
The homepage keeps LVRS lightweight rather than creating a separate page for the current playlist-first setup. Daily activity links directly to the LVRS X account, while the Apple Music playlist is linked directly from the LVRS section.
Ongoing work across music, research, fashion, design, and creative development, including LVRS Radio and ELFA Fashion.
A concise explanation of BY ALAMIR as a personal archive spanning multiple disciplines.
The homepage should read like an independent publication or archive, not an advertisement.
Working rule:
Describe the work. Do not sell the work.
The main hero line — “Ideas, culture, and the systems underneath them.” — functions as the editorial thesis. The mission statement — “NO ALGORITHM OWNS YOUR CREATIVITY.” — is the primary philosophical statement.
The repository is organized so source material, public site code, reusable assets, machine-readable metadata, documentation, and historical files are easy to distinguish and search.

The root stays intentionally small. index.html is the public entry point, writing/index.html is the dedicated public writing archive, site.webmanifest defines the mobile web-app identity, and this README is the human-readable project archive.
Reusable front-end files live under assets/:
assets/css/site.css— active shared site stylesheetassets/css/ticker.css— responsive homepage topic ticker behaviorassets/icons/— browser favicon and platform icon filesassets/images/— artwork and visual assetsassets/images/hero/byalamir-hero-ecosystem.png— production hero artwork and mobile home-screen app icon source
Source material is organized by discipline:
content/writing/— essays, criticism, commentary, and general long-form writingcontent/research/— psychology, sociology, frameworks, papers, and research-led workcontent/lvrs/— LVRS Radio R&B editorials, playlists, reviews, discovery, and release coveragecontent/elfa/— ELFA garment concepts, collections, materials, identity, and product developmentcontent/projects/— multidisciplinary work and projects that cross collections
Use one stable lowercase kebab-case slug per substantial item. content/_template.md provides the standard metadata fields and note structure for future entries.
data/content-index.json is the discovery layer for the website.
Anything that should eventually appear in site search, filters, collection pages, archives, or feeds should be registered there with metadata such as:
- title
- collection
- content type
- status
- year/date
- summary
- tags
- public URL
- platform-specific destinations such as
x_url,substack_url, orapple_music_url
A platform destination can remain null when a piece is not published there. The public archive should not render a link for an unavailable destination.
Full source text remains in content/; the JSON file stays lightweight and searchable. This gives us a stable architecture for adding site-wide search later without reorganizing the repository again.
Technical conventions and architecture decisions live under docs/. The full repository map and workflow are documented in docs/ARCHITECTURE.md.
Superseded loose files are moved to archive/legacy/ instead of being deleted or left at root. Git history remains the canonical version history; the archive simply keeps recognizable old snapshots easy to inspect.
The hero is being developed as a visual summary of the broader BY ALAMIR ecosystem rather than a generic abstract image.
It should represent three core areas simultaneously:
- LVRS Radio — R&B, audio, music discovery, criticism, editorial culture
- ELFA Fashion — fashion, textiles, design language, visual identity
- Psychology / Research — papers, frameworks, diagrams, systems thinking
The homepage production asset lives at:
/assets/images/hero/byalamir-hero-ecosystem.png
The original CSS-generated geometric artwork remains available as an automatic fallback if the production image cannot load. The production image fills the hero frame responsively on desktop and mobile with a restrained contrast and brightness adjustment to integrate it with the site's palette.
The same hero artwork now also serves as the visual identity when BY ALAMIR is saved to a phone home screen.
Additional asset notes live in assets/README.md and assets/images/hero/README.md.
Browser and home-screen identity intentionally use two related but different treatments.
The regular browser favicon system retains the compact geometric mark so tabs and bookmark surfaces remain legible at very small sizes.
Current browser icon files:
assets/icons/favicon.svgassets/icons/favicon.pngassets/icons/favicon.ico
When the site is saved to a phone home screen, the visual identity uses the full multidisciplinary hero artwork instead of the small geometric favicon.
- iOS / iPadOS:
apple-touch-iconpoints directly to/assets/images/hero/byalamir-hero-ecosystem.png. - Android:
site.webmanifestidentifies the same hero artwork as the web-app icon and launches the site in standalone display mode when supported. - Both the homepage and Writing archive include the same mobile-app metadata so the saved identity remains consistent regardless of which page a visitor is viewing.
- The saved app title is BY ALAMIR and uses the site's dark green theme/background color.
ARCHIVE FOOTFALL is the small lifetime-visit display positioned after the About section and immediately before the green mission statement.
The counter uses the public CounterAPI.com endpoint with the stable namespace/key combination:
- namespace:
byalamir.github.io - action:
view - key:
archive-footfall
No account, API key, login, or build-time secret is required. The homepage increments the counter through a lightweight browser request and renders only the returned number inside BY ALAMIR's own visual component. If the external request fails, the component falls back to an em dash rather than disrupting the page.
The displayed lifetime count begins with the installation of this counter on 2026-09-04; visits before installation were not retrospectively available from GitHub Pages.

For every meaningful site update:
- Put source material in the appropriate
content/collection. - Put reusable code and artwork in the appropriate
assets/folder. - Register anything intended for site discovery in
data/content-index.json. - Update the live site files.
- Commit the change with a clear message.
- Add a dated entry here explaining what changed and why.
This keeps the Git history, source archive, site discovery layer, and human-readable development record aligned.
