Option 1: Installer (Recommended)

  1. Download MailSignal-Setup-1.0.0.exe
  2. Run the installer
  3. Follow the setup wizard

The installer creates Start Menu shortcuts and optionally adds MailSignal to Windows startup.

Option 2: Portable/ZIP Version

For users who prefer not to use installers, or if the installer is flagged by antivirus:

  1. Download MailSignal-v1.0.0-windows-x64.zip
  2. Extract to a folder of your choice (e.g., C:\MailSignal)
  3. Run MailSignal.exe

To auto-start with Windows: create a shortcut in your Startup folder.

Windows SmartScreen Warning

Since MailSignal is new and not yet code-signed, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning:

"Windows protected your PC - Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting."

This is normal for new software. To proceed:

  1. Click "More info"
  2. Click "Run anyway"

Why does this happen?

  • Windows SmartScreen warns about apps it hasn't seen before
  • Code signing certificates cost $200-400/year and require identity verification
  • We plan to add code signing in a future release

Is it safe?

Yes. MailSignal is safe to use:

  • Only requests read-only access to your email (unread counts only)
  • All tokens encrypted locally using Windows DPAPI
  • No data sent to external servers - everything stays on your machine
