This change greatly simplifies the status system, which was previously used a combination of a user-set and activity-based statuses; however, the timing and logic behind the automatic handling of the status (online vs offline, away vs online) behave in a non-intuitive manner.
For the MVP, I have opted to simplify the user statuses to track only custom (emoji) statuses for now.
