FAQs
CalendarOverlay, WeekView
To change the week start, go back to the main view and then to ☰ → Settings → Date & Time.
WeekView
To display columns, click on the eye icon in the top right corner of the screen and then check "Show Columns".
MasterList
Most people have between 3-7. It's important to only create main categories that actually regularly have tasks and/or projects inside of them.
MasterList
The Master List is where all your open tasks and projects live. From there you can schedule them into your days or access them through Smart Lists (custom views) to work them off.
MasterList
To change the color, click on the category or project icon, and then on Choose Color.
Strategies, DailyTasks
Certain strategies can be hidden from the main/day view, even when enabled. To display them, go back to the main view, move your mouse cursor to the right edge of the screen, and click on the button in the vertical buttons menu.
Strategies
No, you won't lose your settings. You can disable and enable strategies at any time without losing your settings.
ProjectPlanner
To plan tasks, open the planning sidebar by clicking on the Master List button in the top-right corner and then drag and drop tasks from the sidebar into the month or week box. You can also open the sidebar by pressing X on your keyboard.
ProjectPlanner
Scheduling a task means you specify a specific day on which you want to complete the task. Planning means you specify a time range in which you want to complete the task.
ProjectPlanner
To display completed tasks, click on the filter button in the top-right corner and then click on Filter completed.
WorkflowLibrary
To start from scratch, go to the Import/Export tab and click on Delete workflow. If you'd like to go back to the default Marvin setup, go to the Marvin tab and activate the Solid Workflow.
WorkflowLibrary
Workflow Snippets are smaller workflow pieces that can be combined with your existing setup. You can enable multiple snippets to create your own custom workflow.
WorkflowLibrary
No! Snippets are meant to be shared so they don't include your tasks and projects. They only include information about strategies, settings and optionally your labels.
AccountOverview
You can get a password reset link by opening Marvin in incognito mode and then clicking on the Forgot password link. If you're still having trouble, please reach out to us and we'll help you reset your password.
AccountOverview
Marvin will charge your card only if you explicitly choose a plan and enter your payment information. If you don't choose a plan and let your trial expire, you just won't be able to check off tasks or create new ones until you subscribe.
AccountOverview
To pay for more accounts, click on the "Purchase multiple seats" button after you've selected a plan.
AccountOverview
When importing from an app for which we don't have an importer, your file needs to be in a specific format. To help you with this, we created a Generic CSV which you can download by choosing Generic CSV in the Task Import dropdown menu.
SmartListOrganizer
The way smart lists work is that they only show tasks & projects that match the filter criteria. Depending on how complex the smart list is, Marvin might not be able to add a new task directly into the list.
SmartListOrganizer
Sections/groups will only be displayed when you open the smart list in the day/main view. They won't be displayed when you're creating or editing smart lists.
SmartListOrganizer
Please feel free to reach out to us and we'll help you create the filter you're looking for.
CalendarOverlay
It's possible that your events are just hidden. To check if that's the case, open the controls sidebar by clicking on the cog icon in the top right corner (or press C on your keyboard) and make sure that "Show Events" is checked. If that doesn't help, please reach out to us.
CalendarOverlay
It's possible that you have active filters applied to the calendar. To check if that's the case, open the controls sidebar and make sure that no filter show up at the top of the controls sidebar.
CalendarOverlay
You can add your calendars to Marvin by closing the calendar view and then going to ☰ → Features/Strategies → Calendar Sync. There you will be able to link Marvin with your Google/iCloud/Outlook and other calendars.
CalendarOverlay
In the Calendar strategy settings you can choose whether past items should be grayed out or not.
AccountSettings
You're probably looking for a strategy setting. Settings that are related to a specific strategy can be found by going back to the main view, then to ☰ → Features/Strategies, and clicking on the cog icon next to the strategy.
AccountSettings
Marvin allows you to have two themes selected at the same time (for example light and dark theme). You can toggle between them by pressing the O key on your keyboard when in the main/day view.
AccountSettings, DailyTasks
Unfortunately, you can't change when the day ends. The day in Marvin always ends at midnight. If you're using Rollover Scheduled Tasks strategy, you can change the time when tasks roll over to the next day.
RecurringTaskOrganizer
When you make changes to a single recurring task/project instance, Marvin will only update that instance. If you want to update all instances, you need to open that recurring task/project here and make the changes to it. That way all future instances will be updated.
RecurringTaskOrganizer
If you click on the cog/settings icon in the top-right corner, you can control how far into the future, or how many instances, Marvin should create for recurring tasks and projects.
RecurringTaskOrganizer
Probably the best option is to delete the duplicate tasks. You can quickly delete them from the Reschedule dialog by clicking on the "Delete Duplicates" button. If they're daily tasks, it might be worth switching them to "X days after completion" type.
SavedItemOrganizer
To update it, first load it into the list, make desired changes to it and then save it again. You'll be asked if you want to overwrite the existing saved item.
SavedItemOrganizer
The main difference is that pinned tasks also live in the Master List, meaning that they can be used for Smart Lists
SavedItemOrganizer
Saved tasks are great for tasks that you do more than once but not at a regular interval (use recurring tasks for those) and you want to include some kind of note or checklist (subtasks) in them that makes doing the task easier.
ArchiveStats
Make sure to first enter the archive mode my clicking on the "Load all tasks" button. If you still can't find the task, try using the search bar.
ArchiveStats
To export tracked time, open the Stats (press S on your keyboard), then go to Time Tracking tab and click on Export CSV button. You can adjust the range using start and end date pickers.
HabitOrganizer
It's possible your habits got accidentally hidden. To show them again, go back to the Today list, move your mouse cursor to the right edge of the screen, and click on the "Show Habits" button in the vertical buttons menu.
HabitOrganizer, CalendarOverlay
By default, habits won't be displayed in the calendar. To display a habit in the calendar, you need to edit it, enable "Show in Calendar" setting and choose at what time it should be displayed. Additionally, check that "Show Habits" is checked in the controls sidebar.
HabitOrganizer
Habits in Marvin aren't stored in the Master List, meaning that they won't show up in your task lists or in smart lists. Use them to track your progress better and build streaks.
HabitOrganizer
To display it again, click on the habit and then on the "Show again for Today" button.
Goals
Something came up and you can't work on a goal right now? You can send it to Backburner by clicking on the goal, entering it's settings, and then opening the "Send to Backburner" tab.
Goals
To add already created tasks, you can use the "Set Goal" right-click or hover buttons menu action. Another option is to use the ## input shortcut in the task title.
Goals
Nothing bad will happen. You can always adjust the goal's end date or just let it run longer.
DailyTasks
You can always open the today list using the ctrl+down arrow keyboard shortcut. You can also use the Today/My Day button in the sidebar, or sidebar calendar to jump to a specific day.
DailyTasks
To bring back the day planning, open the Quick Add, type _planDay and press enter/return.
DailyTasks
After you hide/dismiss the events/time blocks list, you can display it again by opening the Quick Add, typing _unhideEvents or _unhideTimeBlocks and pressing enter/return. DailyTasks
You can display sections in your Today list by clicking on the ⋯ button above the Today list and then on Group By where you can choose your favorite grouping method.
DailyTasks
If you're having a hard time choosing what to work on next, we recommend trying one of the decision makers strategies: The Task Jar, Random Task, or Suggested Task.
DailyTasks
You might want to try our Procrastination Wizard strategy that you can enable by going to ☰ → Features/Strategies → Procrastination Wizard.
DailyTasks
