A gameplay mod for the AM2RLauncher, built on AM2R Community Update 1.5.5. Adds Metroid Dread's Flash Shift dash to Samus' kit — plus some shinespark tweaks.
- Flash Shift dash — a fast horizontal dash with three charges that recharge one at a time. Works on the ground and in the air; gravity is suspended for the dash's duration.
- Fully rebindable — new "Flash Shift" entry in the keyboard and
controller settings. Defaults:
F(keyboard), View/Select (controller). - Dash chaining — a completed air dash holds Samus level for a moment, so chained dashes carry across gaps at the same height. Jump or morph to drop out early.
- Shinespark redirect — press jump during an upright shinespark to halt mid-air and relaunch in any direction. Each redirect spends one Flash Shift charge (the charge bar turns orange while a spark is stored).
- 8-way shinesparking — redirected sparks can also launch down, down-left and down-right. Diagonal sparks that land on flat ground resume a speed-boosted run if you hold the travel direction.
- HUD charge bar — yellow for dash charges, orange when the bar is serving as spark fuel.
- FlashShift SFX toggle in the Extras menu. Try it.
- Tunable physics — dash length, speed, recharge and hover are plain numbers in a config file. See below.
- Get the AM2RLauncher
and your own copy of
AM2R_11.zip(the launcher explains this part). - Download the mod zip for your OS from the Releases page.
- In the launcher: Mod Settings → Add New Mod Package → select the zip.
- Pick the AM2R: Flash Shift profile on the Play tab and hit Play.
Saves live in the same place as Community Updates saves and are fully compatible in both directions — the mod adds no save data.
The game writes a [FlashShift] section into config.ini in the save
folder:
| OS | Path |
|---|---|
| Windows | %LOCALAPPDATA%\AM2R\config.ini |
| Linux | ~/.config/AM2R/config.ini |
Close the game, edit, relaunch:
[FlashShift]
DashFrames="6.000000" ; how many frames the dash lasts
DashSpeedPx="12.000000" ; pixels per frame while dashing
RechargeFrames="60.000000" ; frames for one charge to come back
HoverFrames="10.000000" ; post-dash hover length (air dashes)Values are read at launch — edits made while the game is running won't stick (and saving from the options menu writes the current values back).
For deeper surgery the data file opens in
UndertaleModTool;
everything the mod adds lives in plainly-named scripts (scr_flashshift_*,
scr_spark8_visuals, and marked blocks in characterStepEvent).
If your controller doesn't respond, press any button on it once and re-open Options → Controls → Controller Settings. Compatibility mode works but hides the Flash Shift rebind row; standard mode shows everything. Virtual or merged controller devices (input remapping daemons) may not expose a standard button mapping — bind to the controller's plain interface, or play through Steam Input.
