I'm an astrophysicist studying high-redshift galaxies that existed when the Universe was less than 1 billion years old. I primarily study these galaxies through near-infrared spectroscopy, targeting the emission lines emitted from these galaxies in the ultraviolet (which have redshifted to the near-infrared by the time their light reaches our telescopes).
I code for my research and for some of my servicework, however I also dabble in various mini projects as hobbies. Feel free to look around and check it out! You can also learn more about me, my research, and my hobby projects on my website, aibhleog.github.io.
This repository is a series of variations on the zlines code I created to help with telescope observing proposals during graduate school, before the beautiful JWST launched into space. You can find in Quick Tools for the Observational Astronomer and the bandpass-zlines folder in Plotting Playground.
I include three different versions of this code (one of which is the original), with JWST wavelength coverage included at various levels in two of the scripts. Check out the repo (improving-zlines) & the README to see a gif visualizing the various versions! Also, I integrate this code into my .bashrc as an alias so that I can just type zlines 11 in my terminal and it will pop open an updated figure at redshift 11 for me :)
