Arduino debug port
The normal debug port is configured to use the hardware serial port. We use that to communicate with the GSM modem and thus has setup another port to be used. Pin 5(reading) and 6(transmitting) are used for this. The baud rate on the serial port for debug messages is set to 19200 baud.
Connect to a computer
Use serial to USB converter like Sparkfuns FTDI board. Connect RXI to port 6 on the Arduino and GND to GND. See photos.
Viewing debug messages
CoolTerm is a nice terminal program to use for debugging.
Start CoolTerm or similar terminal program
Configure CoolTerm to use the FTDI USB converter as serial port. Click Option and select a port called something like usbserial-A6026SEM. Change the baud rate to 19 200 and data bits 8, parity none and stop bits 1.
