Meetup 2022 01 14
We hope you enjoyed your new year holidays and start this year with enthusiasm to keep going with your goals.
During the study time, we continued working on our personal projects, learning challenges, and Unity tutorials. We were really happy to have back a previous member, she joined again with stronger motivation.
At the end of the session we enjoyed sharing our demos and new challenges. Also we talked about how we want to keep exploring XR for 2022. Although we come from different backgrounds, and have different interests over XR technologies we return to the path of this journey with the same avidity to continue increasing our knowledge.
Lily again joined the sessions to continue studying the fundamental theory of development in XR. She keeps with her positive attitude on continuing learning many more things about the development of XR.

Noella kept learning how to write scripts to move objects in the scene, and made good improvements on her demo. She’s challenging herself and trying new approaches! She shared her new ideas to implement the acquired knowledge. It is amazing to see how she is thinking of new functionalities to implement over her demo and not just follow the content of the material.
We hope she manage to get the rotation of the objects in her demo and continue learning more about coding on C#.
Maria continued working on her project and focused on Hand Tracking animation for Oculus. She shared with us her demo and how the Animator Controller (unity engine interface to control animation system) and Animation View (unity component to play back animations) unity functionality works.
With Animator Controllers you can state the mechanisms that determine which and when the animations are played and blends between other animations seamlessly.
The Animation View can be used to preview and edit Animation Clips for animated Game Objects in Unity.
She also explained that after making your animator and animation controller, you should create a C# script to allow your 3D model to display the animations according to the interactions or events such as pressing a key.
You can read on the following links about it: https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Animator.html https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Animation.html
So cool, she created the hand gestures!
Maria also explained how to make teleportation functionality or grabbing objects by using the Unity XR interaction toolkit and how easy it is to adapt it to any project for VR.
At the end of the session, Maria also explained how to configure Visual Studio Code and Unity for Mac Environment.
In the following links you can find necessary SDK, plugins and instructions to setup your Macbook to start coding on C#.

During the session, Patricia shared with us amazing information. She is participating in Microsoft Mixed Reality challenge: “Hololens 2 App Dev Fundamentals Challenge”
Here is the link: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality-blog/take-the-hololens-2-app-dev-fundamentals-challenge/ba-p/3056485
She shared with us her interest to explore Mixed Reality apps and how this challenge is giving her a good opportunity to learn the basis of development for Hololens devices. She showed us the Mixed Reality Toolkit on Unity and her exploration progress. Patricia always brings to us fresh and interesting information about XR learning material, and suggestions to look for opportunities to participate in great challenges that are out there from time to time.

This was our first session of 2022, and we shared our new goals and how we are looking forward to continuing studying during this year, learning from each other, and sharing our progress. But also, we shared some good advice to reduce stress and maintain our mental health.
Lily shared with us an interesting book, to learn about how important is the quality of sleep time and taking a good rest. If you have time please check the book, because sleeping well is an important part of your learning process.
