This documents how a PRE Action on a plain _xWILD behaves, as fixed in VisualText/nlp-engine#773.

The new "PRE Actions on a Wildcard" section on PRE.md explains three points:

• The condition must hold on every node the wildcard covers, including whitespace.
• The wildcard is greedy and stops at the first node that fails the condition. This is how LinesDictTokZ gathers a line up to its newline.
• From 4.2.20 it also stops before the first node that matches the next rule element.

Both examples on the page are taken from the engine fixture, and they give the stated results on the 4.2.20 build.
