Dict phrase behavior #433

Closed
Closed

Description

@amnonma

So, dict phrase looks like:
hot - rod s=hotrod
But in parse tree, suggested node is _phrase, not _hotrod.
Also, input text such as HOT-3
matches the hot - rod phrase, which is not what I want or expect.
Feature.
Low priority.

@amnonma did you try it with a backslash in front of the hyphen?

    Ok, reentered VSCode just now.
    With backslash:
    This did not work
    splurk - glurk s=flimxx

    This DID work
    motor - carrier s=truck

    Without backslash, BOTH WORK.
The only difference I see is that "motor", "carrier" and "truck" are known, while "splurk" and "glurk" "fimxx" are not.

Fixed in #786 (engine 4.2.30, not yet tagged). The symptoms reported here no longer happen on master: hot - rod s=hotrod builds _hotrod, HOT-3 doesn't match, and \- works for unknown words too. A worse bug turned up while checking it, and that is now fixed: a .dict line with no attributes (e.g. license plate) stopped the file being read, silently dropping every entry after it. Bare entries now load (a phrase becomes _phrase), and a malformed line is reported and skipped. Docs: VisualText/visualtext-files#242.
