A Wii homebrew Pokémon Box-style save manager for Generation 1–3 games, built on top of the Epilogue GB Operator USB cartridge reader and a vendored mGBA core.
Read a real Game Boy / Game Boy Color / Game Boy Advance cartridge over USB, store Pokémon in PBW's own box storage, move them freely between a connected cartridge and box storage, convert Pokémon between Gen 1/2 and Gen 3 with a PCCS-based Time Capsule Transfer, browse a full Pokédex with encounter-location data, and launch a cartridge directly into an in-app "Adventure" (mGBA) session — plus background music/SFX, an in-app tutorial character (Lanette), and a growing set of Pokédex-completion-gated rewards.
This is a fan-made, non-commercial project. See CREDITS.md
for everyone whose games, code, art, and data this project is built on.
- A Wii with the Homebrew Channel
- An Epilogue GB Operator USB cart reader, connected via a USB keyboard adapter or USB port (for cart reading — not required just to browse existing box storage)
- An SD card
Toolchain: DevKitPro (devkitPPC), with the
DEVKITPRO environment variable set. Also requires two devkitPro portlibs
not bundled with base libogc:
(dkp-)pacman -S ppc-libogg ppc-libvorbisidecThen:
cmake -S . -B build -G "Unix Makefiles"
cmake --build build -j4This produces build/pokemon_box_wii.dol.
- Copy the zip from the release and extract to the pokemon-box-wii folder in your apps folder.
Every screen supports 4 control schemes, selectable from the Extras menu
(also stored as controller_scheme in settings.ini):
controller_scheme |
Scheme | Physical controller |
|---|---|---|
0 |
GameCube | GameCube controller |
1 |
Classic | Wii Classic Controller |
2 |
Wiimote (H) | Wii Remote held horizontally (NES-style) |
3 |
Wiimote (V) | Wii Remote held vertically, IR pointer-aimed |
Wiimote (V) is the one scheme with a genuine free-aim pointer — the Wii Remote's IR pointer directly selects box slots/menu items, alongside normal D-pad navigation.
