Generalized Asynchronous Modular Extension Bidirectional Runtime Interaction Dialogue Guidance Environment

The idea

GameBridge is a local middleware layer that connects a human, a local AI, and an existing application.

It is designed to provide a common plugin interface for adding local AI interaction to applications where that interaction is useful.

Rather than requiring each application to implement its own AI integration, GameBridge provides a shared middleware layer that applications can be connected to through plugins and adapters.

GameBridge does not replace the application, and it is not an AI agent. It provides the bridge between the things that already exist.

The human remains in control of the interaction.

Why I built it

Local AI can understand and generate information, but understanding alone does not give it a way to interact with an application.

Applications, on the other hand, already have their own interfaces, controls, state, and capabilities.

GameBridge is built around the idea that these do not need to be replaced.

Instead, they can be connected.

The result is a middleware approach where a human can communicate with a local AI while the AI can, when explicitly permitted, interact with an application through an adapter or plugin designed for that application.

How it works

GameBridge separates communication and application interaction into distinct parts.

Channel 1 provides the communication space between the human and the AI.

Channel 2 provides application interaction through the application's adapter or plugin.

Telemetry allows the AI to request information about the application when that capability is available.

The application itself remains the application.

The AI remains the AI.

GameBridge provides the bridge between them.

Assist rather than automate

GameBridge is designed around assistance rather than automation.

The purpose is not to create an autonomous system that takes over an application.

Instead, GameBridge gives a local AI controlled access to capabilities that a human can choose to make available.

Permissions, channels, application capabilities, and plugin state determine what can actually happen.

This keeps the human, the AI, and the application as separate parts of the system rather than turning everything into one opaque automation layer.

Plugins and adapters

Applications are connected through plugins and adapters.

A plugin defines what GameBridge can do with a particular application and provides the application-specific interaction logic.

This makes the core middleware independent of any individual application.

The same GameBridge infrastructure can therefore be used with different applications without turning those applications into dependencies of the core system.

Local by design

GameBridge is designed around local AI and local application interaction.

It does not require a cloud AI service to define its architecture.

The AI provider, model, application adapter, and GameBridge itself can remain separate components.

This makes the system suitable for experimentation with different local models and different applications while keeping the underlying bridge consistent.

Open source

GameBridge is open source and released under the MIT License.

The project is intended as an exploration of how existing applications can be augmented with local AI without requiring the applications themselves to become AI applications.

Where to find GameBridge

The source code and development history are available on GitHub.

Technical documentation, implementation details, and project-specific documentation are kept separate from this README.

This README describes the idea and purpose of GameBridge rather than serving as a technical manual.

My Perspective (the real READ ME)

I use a cross-platform AI methodology, working across multiple AI platforms and tools and using each where it adds value.

My workflow is human-led and AI-augmented. I use AI and other tools for ideas, research, coding, testing, documentation, visual work, or whatever a project requires.

My methodology demonstrates that meaningful development is possible using unpaid AI tools. Paid tools are neither required nor excluded.

My projects are examples of what I have been able to create from this perspective, not a prescription for how others should work.

I release my projects as open source as part of my ecosystem, making them and their development approach available for others to explore, use, learn from, or develop further. Open source is part of my ecosystem, not a requirement for anyone else using or building upon my work.

Just as importantly, I want this approach to encourage people to try their own creativity without feeling pressured to achieve a particular result. You might want to write code, paint, make music, build something, or simply experiment. If it is interesting and enjoyable, that can be reason enough to start.

The purpose is not to prescribe a way of working, but to demonstrate what was made possible from this perspective.
