Aligned with industry standards such as NIST SP 800-61, this playbook serves as a central guide for minimizing the impact of phishing attempts, ensuring swift recovery, and proactively strengthening our overall cybersecurity posture.

  • Cover multiple social engineering vectors: Email Phishing, Spear Phishing, Whaling, Vishing, and Smishing.

This playbook is designed for all personnel involved in incident management and organizational security:

  • Security Operations Center (SOC) Analysts: The first line of defense and triage.
  • Incident Response Team (IRT): Responsible for in-depth analysis, containment, and eradication.
  • IT Administrators: Tasked with technical controls, network isolation, and system recovery.
  • Key Stakeholders: Senior Management, Legal Counsel, Human Resources, and Public Relations for compliance and communication.

📋 Playbook Structure

1. Phishing Threat Landscape

Details the characteristics and delivery methods of various attacks. It helps responders identify observable signs (e.g., suspicious URLs, urgent language) and symptoms (e.g., unusual login attempts, unauthorized software).

2. Detection & Triage

Outlines the use of monitoring tools (Anti-Phishing software, SIEM, DNS analysis) alongside user reporting. Includes guidelines for examining Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) such as email headers, malicious attachments, and anomalous network traffic.

3. Incident Prioritization
