This MCP server lets coding agents read, search and navigate a codebase within a token budget. Search hits come back under their enclosing function or class, large files come back as skeletons instead of blind cuts, trace returns callers, callees, references and implementations in one call, and re-reads return only what changed. It's read-only by construction, with outlines for 18 languages (tree-sitter) plus Markdown, JSON, YAML and TOML.

Install or connection instructions

Install (macOS, Apple Silicon): brew install brennengreen/tap/speedread, or the prebuilt binary from https://github.com/brennengreen/speedread/releases/latest. From source on macOS or Linux: cargo install --locked --git https://github.com/brennengreen/speedread
Run: speedread mcp (stdio). No environment variables or API keys.
Claude Desktop: the .mcpb bundle attached to each release. MCP Registry: io.github.brennengreen/speedread.
