The Michi‑Drive Hypothesis is a conceptual framework that extracts the minimal structure common to life‑derived notions such as curiosity, exploration, and intellectual desire.
By removing psychological, cultural, and value‑laden components, the hypothesis defines a pure directionality toward the unknown—called Michi‑Drive—and repositions the unknown (Michi) as an independent abstract entity, not merely the complement of the known.
This repository contains:
- The Michi‑Drive Hypothesis manuscript
- Supporting notes and materials
- Future implementations and modeling code related to the hypothesis
The hypothesis is built on a three‑layer framework:
- Michi: the unknown as an autonomous abstract entity
- Michi‑Drive: the intrinsic directionality possessed by Michi
- Independent of life, subjectivity, purpose, or meaning
Living systems possess:
- A boundary (differences in accessibility)
- An updating structure (continuous changes in internal state)
These two structures naturally generate:
- Known = updated internal regions
- Unknown = non‑updated internal regions
Because updating never stops, life continuously regenerates unknowns, producing a structural tendency isomorphic to Michi‑Drive.
This tendency is called Michi‑Drive‑Manifestation.
In finite representational spaces (biological or artificial):
- Unknownness is approximated as a scalar field U(x)
- Its gradient ∇U(x) appears as a vector field toward the unknown
- This vector field is the implementation‑layer projection of Michi‑Drive
→ Michi‑Drive‑Manifestation
Strong implementations (life) generate this vector field autonomously.
Weak implementations (most artificial systems) require external agents.
An independent abstract entity, not defined by the known.
A pure directionality toward Michi, independent of:
- value
- purpose
- meaning
- subjectivity
The observable vector field toward unknownness in implementation layers.
