Weather Data

From 1988 until the present, my father has kept records of precipitation and high/low temperatures of our hometown of Oskaloosa, Iowa. The data has been gathered from multiple new networks in out area and also from rain gauge measurements.

Things to look at

• rolling averages

  • we will look at decadal and yearly rolling averages.

• examples of variance between warming months vs cooling months

  • looking at the spring months (February - April) and autumn months (September - November) we will look at the variance between these two seasons.

• examples of parametric modeling

  • taking a portion of data from A year, we will use parametric modeling to see how the more degrees of freedom you add the higher the variance, but also the higher the bias.
