🎧 Auris - Read your favorite books aloud offline

Auris turns your digital books into audiobooks. It reads EPUB, PDF, and TXT files aloud using your computer hardware. The software runs entirely on your machine. You do not need an internet connection to listen to your books. Auris includes natural voices and highlights text while it reads to help you follow along.

📥 How to download and install

Follow these steps to set up Auris on your Windows computer.

  1. Go to the Auris releases page.
  2. Look for the latest version listed under the Releases section.
  3. Find the file ending in .exe.
  4. Click the link to save the file to your computer.
  5. Open your Downloads folder.
  6. Double-click the installer file.
  7. Follow the prompts on your screen to complete the installation.
  8. Once finished, find the Auris icon on your desktop or in your Start menu.

⚙️ System requirements

Auris works on most modern Windows computers. Ensure you meet these requirements for the best performance:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • A processor with at least two cores.
  • 4 GB of RAM.
  • 500 MB of free storage space.
  • Speakers or headphones connected to your device.

📖 How to use the player

You can start listening to your books in four simple steps.

  1. Open the Auris application.
  2. Click the Open File button at the top of the interface.
  3. Select your e-book file from your computer folders.
  4. Press the Play button to start the audio.

Manage your library

Auris creates a list of every book you open. You can see your library on the left side of the screen. Click any book in the list to switch between files. Auris saves your place in each book automatically.

Change your voice settings

You can choose different voices for your books. Move to the Settings menu to see a list of installed voices. Each voice offers a unique tone and speed. Use the slider tool to adjust the reading speed. If you prefer a faster pace, move the slider to the right.

Customizing the display

The application highlights words as it reads. This makes it easy to keep track of the text on your screen. You can change the highlight color in the Appearance section of the settings menu. You can also adjust the font and text size for better readability.

🛠️ Frequently asked questions

Do I need a constant internet connection?

No. Auris works offline. Once you install the software, it does not require access to the web.

Which file types work with Auris?

Auris supports EPUB, PDF, and TXT formats. Most digital books use these formats.

Does it clone my own voice?

Auris uses advanced voice synthesis technology. While the software includes several high-quality voices, it does not record or clone your personal voice.

Where does Auris store my books?

Auris does not move your files. It reads the files from their original location on your hard drive.

📝 Solving common issues

Most users find the setup easy, but you might run into minor issues. Use these tips to fix them.

The app will not launch.

Restart your computer and try opening the application again. If that fails, run the installer one more time to repair the files.

The audio sounds robotic.

Go to Settings and select a different voice profile. Some system voices sound different due to Windows language settings. Changing the voice usually fixes clarity issues.

The highlight does not match the audio.

Ensure your book file is not a scanned image. Auris reads text layers. If your PDF is a scan of a paper book, the app may struggle to highlight specific words. Check that you are using a digital-first document for the best experience.

The app runs slow.

Close other programs while using Auris, especially if your computer has limited memory. This frees up space for the voice engine to work without interruptions.
