Setting a new Codex model as the upstream default previously left new Telegram topics pinned to the configured model. Add TELEGRAM_AGENT_BOT_CODEX_MODEL=auto to follow the visible model marked isDefault by the current account’s Codex CLI, refreshing at startup and when selecting Codex for a topic.

Existing topic choices and explicit model defaults stay unchanged. Manual picker lists remain authoritative, hidden models are ignored, and failed discovery retains the last resolved default. Before the first successful discovery, launches defer model choice to the CLI.

Validation: 73 targeted configuration/catalog tests passed; focused Ruff, formatting, and Pyright checks passed. A read-only query against the installed CLI resolved auto and the first picker choice to gpt-6-astra.
