Makes Incott macros usable end to end: a macro step can click as well as type, a button can be bound to its macro, and uploads reliably reach the mouse. Hardware-tested on a G23V2 Pro over the 8K dongle.
What changes
Mouse buttons as macro steps. The vendor's key table carries keyboard keys and mouse buttons in one list, so a step's key can now be INCOTT_MACRO_MOUSE_KEYS.left/right/middle (0xf0–0xf2). incottMacroKeyLabel() names any step key.
One Macro button action, bound per button. A button only runs the macro buffer carrying its own display index (incottMacroSlotForButton). The vendor's apply loop uses one index for the upload, the binding code and the matrix. Uploading to buffer 0 and binding Forward to 0x00000009 is accepted by the device and never fires. So buttonOptions gets a single Macro entry, and setButtonMapping(button, "Macro") writes that button's own binding (slot << 16 | 9). A binding that points at another button's buffer reads back as Macro (buffer n) instead of a working macro.
Chunk timing and atomicity. Each 8-byte header is followed by the vendor's 80 ms gap and then its 32-byte output report (INCOTT_MACRO_CHUNK_SETTLE_MS), sent as one queue entry (IncottTransactionQueue.sendChunk). Queued as two entries, a background read could land between a header and its chunk. Nothing acknowledges a chunk, so the loss was silent.
Loop modes pinned to a capture. All three loop modes and a repeat count above 1 are checked byte for byte against captures/incott-8k-wireless/macro-loop-modes-2026-09-14.hex. The vendor's exported files number the modes from 1 and the wire from 0; that off-by-one is documented.
Docs: re-bind after every upload. Hardware-confirmed 2026-11-06: the loop mode and repeat count take effect when the button binding is written, not when the buffer is. Uploading alone replaced the steps but kept the old mode, so a "repeat 3 times" macro ran only while held. The vendor writes the binding after every save. uploadMacro's doc now says callers must do the same; the app does.
No breaking changes. uploadMacro's signature is unchanged, and the new exports are additive.
Testing
npm run build and npm test: 3,036 tests pass, including the new capture-backed tests in src/incott/index.test.ts and src/drivers/incott/hid.test.ts (80 ms gap per chunk; nothing interleaves between a header and its chunk while a background read is in flight).
On hardware (G23V2 Pro, 8K dongle), through the app PR below: macros with mouse-click and keyboard steps, each loop mode, and a repeat count of 3 all behave as configured.
The app side is OpenMouse-Project/openmouse#1382. It needs a release of this PR for incottMacroSlotForButton, INCOTT_MACRO_MOUSE_KEYS and incottMacroKeyLabel.
Add mouse-button macro steps and per-button Macro binding to Incott driver
Macro steps can now use mouse buttons via INCOTT_MACRO_MOUSE_KEYS (left, right, middle), with labels from incottMacroKeyLabel in index.ts
Buttons offer a single Macro action instead of per-slot options. Setting it writes a binding to the buffer matching the button's display index (not its wire index) and reads it back to verify; a binding naming another button's buffer is reported as Macro (buffer N)
IncottTransactionQueue.sendChunk in hid.ts queues each macro chunk header, the 80 ms INCOTT_MACRO_CHUNK_SETTLE_MS delay, and the output report as one operation, so status reads cannot interleave between a header and its chunk. Upload stops on a failed header.
Adds a captured loop-mode macro record and updates the testing docs
Behavioral Change: button mappings now report Macro / Macro (buffer N) instead of numbered macro slot labels; incottButtonActionCode returns null for Macro since resolution requires button context
Assign macros to buttons with a single Macro action; each button uses its corresponding macro buffer. Bindings show the buffer number when it differs from the button’s default.
Macro steps support mouse buttons as well as keyboard keys, with multiple loop modes and repeat counts.
Improvements
Macro uploads send each data chunk with a settling interval and without interleaving other device transactions.
Two gaps that only mattered once a macro UI became possible.
A macro step is not keyboard-only. The vendor keeps keys and mouse buttons in
one table (`vkPOS`), so a step takes either — LButton 0xF0, RButton 0xF1,
MButton 0xF2, the same codes the button action words use. The encoder already
wrote them correctly, but IncottMacroStep documented `key` as "HID keyboard
usage code", so anyone building on it would have concluded a click macro was
impossible. That is the most common macro there is. Adds
INCOTT_MACRO_MOUSE_KEYS and incottMacroKeyLabel so a UI can name and record
both kinds of step.
incottButtonActionCode now writes macro bindings through
incottMacroButtonCode, and all ten slots are published in buttonOptions. That
reversal was deliberately absent before: until uploadMacro existed, offering a
macro as a writable action would have bound a button to a buffer nothing could
fill. Binding an empty slot is still accepted and still does nothing, since
the device offers no way to ask which slots are populated — the same behaviour
the vendor tool has.

The vendor waits 80 ms between announcing a chunk and sending it, which
reads as the device needing that gap to be ready for the output report.
sendOutput waited afterwards instead, leaving each header and its payload
back-to-back with the pause in the wrong place.

Hardware-confirmed after the opposite assumption shipped and did nothing.
Macro buffers are not free-standing slots a button can be pointed at: the
vendor's apply loop uses one `i` for all three writes — upload to buffer i,
encode i << 16 | 9, write that at the button's matrix position — and its
capture agrees (buffer 3, code 0x00030009, matrix 4; Forward is display index
3, wire index 4).
Uploading to buffer 0 and binding Forward to 0x00000009 is accepted by the
device and silently never fires, which is exactly what the macro card did.
buttonOptions now offers a single "Macro" entry rather than Macro 1..10: a
per-slot choice lists combinations the device ignores. setButtonMapping
resolves it per button, since the label alone cannot say which buffer is
meant. A binding naming another button's buffer reads back as
"Macro (buffer N)" rather than as a working macro, because it will not fire.
Note the trap the tests pin: the buffer is the DISPLAY index, not the wire
index the binding is written to. Forward is 3 and 4; Back is 4 and 3. Using
the wire index would point each at the other's buffer.

Queued as two entries, the header and its 32-byte chunk looked ordered but
were not: awaiting the header yielded to the event loop, so any background
read queued meanwhile ran between them and the device got a feature query
while waiting for an output report. Nothing acknowledges a chunk, so the
damage was silent. `sendChunk` now sends both halves, with the vendor's 80 ms
gap between them (`INCOTT_MACRO_CHUNK_SETTLE_MS`), as a single entry.
Also pins all three loop modes and a repeat count against a second capture
(2026-09-14) and documents that the vendor export numbers loop modes from 1
while the wire numbers them from 0.

Hardware-confirmed 2026-11-06: a macro's loop mode and repeat count take
effect when the button binding is written, not when the buffer is. Uploading
alone replaced the steps but kept the old loop mode, so a macro set to repeat
ran only while held. The vendor writes the binding after the buffer on every
save, which is why its captures never showed it.

Summary
Macro protocol and encoding src/incott/index.ts, src/incott/index.test.ts, captures/incott-8k-wireless/macro-loop-modes-2026-09-14.hex
The protocol documents loop-mode wire values and mouse-button codes. It adds mouse-button key labels and button-to-buffer helpers. Tests and captures record loop values, macro encoding, and mouse-button steps.
Each upload chunk sends its feature-report header, waits 80 ms, then sends its output-report data in one queue entry. Tests cover delay, failure handling, and preventing a queued query from separating headers and chunks.
The driver offers a generic Macro action and maps it to the selected button’s buffer. It displays a buffer number when a binding references a different buffer. Tests and documentation describe the mapping and action behavior.

paragraph shown and the earlier numbered-slot description. Document that
buttonOptions offers only “Macro” and that setButtonMapping resolves it through
incottMacroBindingForButton using the button’s display index; remove claims that
incottButtonActionCode accepts macro labels or that incottMacroButtonCode writes
macro bindings.
Review comments at @src/drivers/incott/hid.ts:

from sendFeatureReport so a failed macro header send propagates and stops the
upload before sendReport sends the chunk. Preserve the existing settle delay and
output-send behavior when the header succeeds.
