Summary

COSMOS 7.0 renamed the Python Secrets.getClient() class method to Secrets.get_client() and didn't keep the old name. On 7.0 through 7.4, a 6.x Python plugin that calls Secrets.getClient() fails with an AttributeError. A customer upgrading from 6.10.4 to 7.4.1 ran into this. Bucket.getClient() already kept a deprecated alias in Python; Secrets didn't.

  • Python: Secrets.getClient() comes back as a deprecated alias. It raises a DeprecationWarning and calls get_client(), the same way Bucket.getClient() does.
  • Ruby: adds Secrets.get_client and Bucket.get_client, which call getClient, so the snake_case names work in both languages. getClient stays, since enterprise calls Secrets.getClient in ai_chat_config.rb.
  • Docs: a new "COSMOS API Changes" section in upgrading.md. It describes the rename, says it affects 7.0 through 7.4, and explains how to find an old copy of a plugin that keeps raising getClient errors after the plugin is fixed.

Test plan

  • uv run pytest test/utilities/test_secrets.py: 21 passed. The new getClient test fails if the old secrets.py is restored.
  • bundle exec rspec spec/utilities/secrets_spec.rb spec/utilities/bucket_spec.rb: all pass
  • Ruff, RuboCop (new lines), and Prettier (upgrading.md) are clean

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Ruby users can now use the snake_case get_client method for secrets and bucket clients.
    • Python users can continue using getClient; it now works as a deprecated alias and displays a warning directing callers to get_client.
  • Documentation

    • Added migration guidance covering supported method names across versions and troubleshooting for outdated plugin code or shared Python packages.

- Add Python Secrets.getClient, which warns and calls get_client; 7.0
renamed it without an alias, breaking 6.x plugins
- Add Ruby Secrets.get_client and Bucket.get_client so the snake_case
  names work in both languages
- Document the rename under COSMOS API Changes in upgrading.md
