Summary

  • CLAUDE.md is now just @AGENTS.md, so Claude Code and Codex (and other agents) read one shared file instead of two copies that had drifted apart.
  • Fixed stale facts: Python version range and ruff target (3.10), Rails 8.1 (was 7.2), the inverted uv sync --locked note, Playwright scripts, and the Codex-mangled commit footer.
  • Removed generic tool tutorials (uv/Poetry), the ruff rule list, the tech-stack section, and other content the tooling already enforces or prints.
  • New rules:
    • Sharding: db_shard vs operator shard, the db_shard: 0 defaults, and why local tests and the default compose setup can't catch wrong-shard reads.
    • Ruby and Python parity: path mapping between the two trees, C extensions, .pyi stubs.
    • Scripting API: changes must update docs.openc3.com/docs/guides/scripting-api.md, using the _Coming Soon_ placeholder in Since badges.
    • Cross-repo changes: what in core Enterprise depends on, and to grep ../cosmos-enterprise before changing it.

A companion PR in cosmos-enterprise imports this file from ../cosmos/AGENTS.md.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added repository guidance covering architecture, development and testing, coding conventions, sharding, cross-repository dependencies, language parity, scripting API documentation, and commit messages.
    • Replaced the previous guidance in CLAUDE.md with a reference to the consolidated documentation.

CLAUDE.md now imports AGENTS.md so Claude Code, Codex, and other agents
share one file. Remove stale and generic content, fix version drift, and
add rules for sharding, Ruby/Python parity, scripting API docs, and
cross-repo changes with Enterprise.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: Adds repository and architecture documentation describing COSMOS services, libraries, frontend packages, and the Enterprise/Core configuration distinction.
  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: Adds Docker, Ruby, Rails API, Python, frontend, and Playwright setup and test commands, including the requirement to build the local Ruby gem before using the Rails APIs.
  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: Adds Ruby, Python, and JavaScript/Vue linting and formatting guidance, including Python 3.10 as the minimum supported version.
  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: Adds sharding guidance distinguishing the data-location db_shard from the operator-selection shard; target data uses its target’s shard while other data uses shard 0. It also documents explicit shard arguments, grouping topic reads by shard, aggregating across active shards, applying settings and cleanup to lazily created instances, Ruby/Python parity, and tests that assert the selected shard.

- Line 189: Update the Playwright guidance so the Enterprise specs path uses the
sibling repository location, ../cosmos-enterprise/playwright/enterprise, rather
than a child path.
- Line 75: Update the Rails test commands in AGENTS.md so the command for
openc3-cosmos-script-runner-api runs from the repository root rather than inside
openc3-cosmos-cmd-tlm-api. Isolate each directory change in a subshell or return
to the repository root between commands.
