feat(script-runner): expose bucket and path from open_bucket_dialog - #4044
Conversation
The file returned by open_bucket_dialog only carried filename, so scripts could not tell which bucket or key it came from. Add bucket and bucket_path in both Ruby and Python, with specs and docs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

🟢 Approval recommended
The additive Ruby and Python implementations are consistent, documented, and covered by focused tests.

What changed in this PR
No factual issues. This PR exposes bucket metadata on files returned by Script Runner’s open_bucket_dialog.
Changes:
- Adds
bucketandbucket_pathaccessors in Ruby and Python. - Documents and tests the new behavior across both implementations.

Loading running_script globally overrides require and the Script dialog methods (Ruby) and patches openc3.script (Python), breaking later specs. Move bucket dialog file handling into a _get_bucket_dialog_file storage helper tested directly, and scope the Python running_script import to its test module. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Attach bucket accessors to the selected file, not its shared type.
_get_storage_file returns a NamedTemporaryFile. Assigning methods to type(file) also adds them to files returned by open_file_dialog. Those files have no _bucket or _bucket_path, so calling the inherited methods raises AttributeError. Attach the methods to this file instance or use a dedicated wrapper. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Make setUpModule restore state if the import fails.
setUpModule snapshots vars(module) and then imports running_script. If the import raises, unittest does not call tearDownModule. The partially applied monkeypatches then stay in openc3.script and openc3.script.api_shared. This pollution is the problem the change tries to prevent.
Register the restore logic with unittest.addModuleCleanup. This cleanup runs even when setUpModule fails. It is a low-risk change because the import is the only step that can fail.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.Preserve a previously imported
running_scriptmodule.If another test imports
openc3.utilities.running_scriptbeforesetUpModule, this setup reuses that module.tearDownModulethen removes it unconditionally. A later import loads a second module and reapplies its import-time monkeypatches, making test behavior depend on import order. Save the prior module and package attribute; restore them when they existed, and remove them only when this test imported the module first.
