Paradigm: Evolutionary Distinction Hierarchy & Compression Compatibility
Traditional object-oriented systems and static ontologies rely on discrete hierarchies: Class, Subclass, Instance. They assume reality is fixed, observer-independent, and composed of absolute types.
Metaclass rejects this foundation.
We propose a new protocol for digital existence based on the principle that reality is not a collection of objects, but a dynamic equilibrium of competing perspectives. In this system:
- Ground Continuum: The base state is an undifferentiated continuous field without inherent structure.
- Distinction Operators: "Objects" and "Categories" emerge only when a distinction mechanism (a compression model) partitions the field.
- Persistent Patterns: Existence is defined not by intrinsic properties, but by the temporal stability of a pattern under a specific distinction framework.
- Dynamic Reality: Truth is relative. The dominance of a specific reality is determined by its Compression Compatibility with other co-existing models.
In Metaclass, Reality is the Center of the Compression Network.
An entity does not exist in isolation. It exists strictly as E under D_i.
- Under a Physics Distinction, a pattern may be defined as a "Fluid Volume".
- Under a Semantic Distinction, the same pattern may be defined as a "Resource".
- Under a Visual Distinction, it may be defined as a "Mesh".
All are valid simultaneously. None is absolute. The system maintains these multi-perspective states without forcing a single ground truth.
Stability is not defined by low entropy or static states. It is defined by Information Flow Balance.
A pattern persists if its structure remains distinguishable over time within a given distinction framework. Mathematically, an entity is stable if the net information flux across its boundaries approaches zero within the context of its defining distinction operator.
Why do some realities appear more "real" or dominant than others?
Because their underlying distinction models possess high Coordination Scores with the broader network of models.
We utilize Minimum Description Length (MDL) within a Meta-Encoding Layer to measure this compatibility:
- Models that can translate each other with low computational cost gain priority.
- Isolated models that cannot be compressed by others fade into irrelevance.
- Reality emerges from the consensus of compressible structures.
The system supports limited recursion to prevent infinite regress while allowing evolutionary dynamics:
- Level 0: Ground Continuum (Undifferentiated Field)
- Level 1: Object Distinctions (Physics, Semantic, Visual, etc.)
- Level 2: Coordination Layer (Calculates MDL and Priority Weights)
- Level 3: Meta-Encoding (Frozen Base Language for Comparison)
Metaclass is not a library; it is a protocol for ontological evolution. The repository structure reflects this layered architecture:

- Multi-Perspective Entities: Objects that change nature based on the observer's distinction model without losing internal consistency.
- Evolutionary Ontology: New categories emerge automatically when a new distinction model proves highly compatible with the existing network.
- Reality Debugging: Trace why an object "disappeared" (loss of distinction priority) or "changed type" (shift in coordination weights).
- Cross-Domain Interoperability: Physics, AI, and Rendering systems no longer fight for truth; they negotiate reality through MDL compatibility.
- It is not a Class Factory in the Python or C++ sense.
- It is not a Static Schema Registry.
- It is not a traditional Game Engine Component.
- It is not an Objective Reality Simulator.
It is a Cognitive-Physical Unified Field Theory for Digital Universes.
"In the beginning, there was only the Continuum. Then came Distinction. And where Distinction persisted, Existence emerged. And where Distinctions agreed, Reality formed."
To define a new existence in Metaclass, you do not instantiate a class. You propose a Distinction Model and let it compete in the coordination network.
// Define a distinction operator
const LiquidDistinction = new Distinction({
name: "hydrodynamic_flow",
compress: (groundState) => { ... },
encode: (pattern) => { ... }
});
// Register and let it compete
Metaclass.register(LiquidDistinction);
// The system automatically calculates its Priority (P)
// based on MDL compatibility with existing models.
// If P rises, "Liquid" becomes a dominant reality in the network.Ontological Public License v1.0
