An honest one, and we would rather ask than quietly stop.
SkillFishOS is developed on one BC-250, which is also the machine the family plays on.
That has a concrete cost: it is why some things get tested less than they should, and the
two defects that could stop a 26.06.3 installation were found by a user on real hardware
rather than by us. A second board — plus an NVMe, a power supply and cooling — would mean
an image can be installed and reinstalled from scratch without taking the console away from
anyone.
The project stays free and GPL-3.0 either way. That is not in question.
What we are unsure about is the shape of the ask. Options, none decided:
Nothing. Keep it as it is and accept slower hardware testing.
A one-off "buy the test board" push, with the amount and the receipt published, and
nothing recurring.
Ongoing small donations (there is a donate page
already), which pays for hosting more than hardware.
Something else — if you have seen a model that works for a small project without
turning it into an obligation, we would like to hear it.
What would you find reasonable, as someone who uses this? And what would put you off?
