Talkmancer translates World of Warcraft chat while you play. Messages in other languages appear translated in a small window over the game, and you can answer in your own language: Talkmancer translates your reply and puts it on the clipboard, ready to paste into chat.

It is two parts that work together: a WoW addon and a free Windows app. The addon passes chat to the app, the app translates it and shows it.

Made for WoW Forever and tested there. The addon also lists Classic Era, Anniversary, Mists of Pandaria Classic and Retail, but this release was not retested in them.

Features

• Two translation engines. Offline is free and private: chat is translated on your PC with Mozilla's Firefox Translations models, about 50 MB per language, downloaded once. DeepSeek understands gaming slang and the flow of the conversation; it needs your own DeepSeek API key. With DeepSeek the offline translation shows at once and DeepSeek's replaces it a moment later.
• Replies in your language. Click a message, type your answer and press Enter. Talkmancer translates it into that player's language and copies it; in WoW press Enter, Ctrl+V, Enter. A reply to a public chat starts with the player's name, or switch to a whisper. Shift+click a message to whisper straight away.
• Three views. A window, plain lines without a frame, or lines right above the WoW chat. Choose in /talkmancer.
• Three themes. Messenger, Forge and Over the game. Choose in the app's settings.
• Names stay names. Player names are never translated, and you can add your own words to keep as written: your guild, nicknames.
• Gaming terms explained. A "Terms" line under a message explains jargon such as LFG, dungeon abbreviations and class terms.
• Back-translation check. Your reply is translated back into your language, so you see what the other player will read.
• Alerts. A soft sound and a mark when someone mentions your character or one of your alert words.
• After boss fights. Blizzard hides chat from addons during boss encounters. Talkmancer picks those messages up when the fight ends.
• Mute. Right-click a message to copy it, show only the conversation with that player, or mute them.

Install

1. Download and run Talkmancer-Setup.exe. It needs no admin rights, installs the app for your Windows user, finds your WoW folders and installs the addon. Prefer no installer? Take Talkmancer-portable.zip, unpack it anywhere and run Talkmancer.exe; the addon is installed from the app's settings.
2. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the app is not code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway.
3. Start WoW (or type /reload), then type /talkmancer test in chat. Sample messages should appear translated.
4. Optional: for DeepSeek, get an API key at platform.deepseek.com, open the app's settings from its tray icon and paste the key. DeepSeek is paid by usage from your DeepSeek balance.

The addon alone is also on CurseForge, but it needs the app to translate.

Commands

• /talkmancer opens the addon settings: what chat to translate, the view and the strip corner.
• /talkmancer test sends sample messages to check the setup.
• /talkmancer on, /talkmancer off pause and resume passing chat to the app.

In the app: Ctrl+Shift+T jumps to the reply box, Tab switches the reply language, Esc returns to WoW. Settings are in the tray icon menu and behind the gear button.

How it works and privacy

The addon shows a thin coloured strip in a corner of the game window for a fraction of a second per message. The app reads that 256 × 24 pixel area. If another window covers the corner, it asks Windows to draw the WoW window into memory and reads the same area from it; frames are never saved or sent. Talkmancer does not read the game's memory, does not change game files and never types into the game: you paste every reply yourself.

With the offline engine no chat text leaves your PC. With DeepSeek, message text and your replies go to DeepSeek; sender names are not sent. There are no accounts, servers or analytics. Details: PRIVACY.md.

Talkmancer переводит чат World of Warcraft прямо во время игры. Сообщения на других языках появляются переведёнными в небольшом окне поверх игры. Отвечать можно на своём языке: Talkmancer переведёт ответ и положит его в буфер обмена, остаётся вставить в чат.

Сделан для WoW Forever и проверен в нём. В аддоне указаны также Classic Era, Anniversary, Mists of Pandaria Classic и Retail, но в них этот выпуск заново не проверялся.

Возможности

• Два сервиса перевода. "Офлайн" бесплатный и приватный: чат переводится на вашем ПК моделями Mozilla Firefox Translations, около 50 МБ на язык, скачиваются один раз. DeepSeek понимает игровой жаргон и ход разговора, но нужен ваш API-ключ DeepSeek. Сначала сразу виден офлайн-перевод, а через мгновение его заменяет перевод DeepSeek.
• Ответы на своём языке. Щёлкните по сообщению, напишите ответ и нажмите Enter. Talkmancer переведёт его на язык игрока и скопирует, в WoW нажмите Enter, Ctrl+V, Enter. Ответ в общий чат начинается с имени игрока, можно переключиться на личку. Shift + щелчок по сообщению сразу выбирает личку.
• Три вида: окно, строки без рамки или строки прямо над чатом WoW. Выбираются в /talkmancer.
• Три темы: "Мессенджер", "Кузница" и "Над игрой". Выбираются в настройках программы.
• Имена игроков не переводятся, и можно добавить свои слова, которые останутся как есть: название гильдии, прозвища.
• Строка "Термины" под сообщением объясняет жаргон: LFG, сокращения подземелий, классовые словечки.
• Обратный перевод ответа показывает, что прочитает другой игрок.
• Оповещения звуком и пометкой, когда упоминают вашего персонажа или ваши слова.
• Во время боя с боссом Blizzard скрывает чат от аддонов, а Talkmancer подбирает эти сообщения после боя.
• Правый щелчок по сообщению: скопировать, показать только разговор с этим игроком или заглушить его.

Установка

1. Скачайте и запустите Talkmancer-Setup.exe. Права администратора не нужны: он ставит программу для вашей учётной записи Windows, находит папки WoW и ставит аддон. Без установщика: скачайте Talkmancer-portable.zip, распакуйте куда угодно и запустите Talkmancer.exe, аддон ставится из настроек программы.
2. Windows может показать "Система Windows защитила ваш компьютер", потому что у программы нет цифровой подписи. Нажмите "Подробнее", затем "Выполнить в любом случае".
3. Запустите WoW или наберите /reload, затем /talkmancer test в чате. Должны появиться переведённые пробные сообщения.
4. По желанию для DeepSeek получите API-ключ на platform.deepseek.com, откройте настройки программы через значок в трее и вставьте ключ. DeepSeek оплачивается по факту с вашего баланса DeepSeek.

Аддон отдельно есть и на CurseForge, но переводит он только вместе с программой.

Команды: /talkmancer открывает настройки аддона (какой чат переводить, вид, угол полоски), /talkmancer test присылает пробные сообщения, /talkmancer on и /talkmancer off включают и приостанавливают передачу чата. В программе Ctrl+Shift+T переходит к полю ответа, Tab меняет язык ответа, Esc возвращает в WoW. Настройки открываются из значка в трее и шестерёнкой в окне.

Как это работает и приватность. На каждое сообщение аддон на долю секунды показывает в углу окна игры тонкую цветную полоску. Программа читает эту область 256 × 24 пикселя. Если угол закрыт другим окном, она просит Windows отрисовать окно WoW в память и читает ту же область оттуда, кадры никуда не сохраняются и не отправляются. Talkmancer не читает память игры, не меняет её файлы и никогда сам не пишет в игру: каждый ответ вы вставляете сами. С офлайн-переводом текст чата не покидает ваш ПК. С DeepSeek текст сообщений и ваших ответов уходит в DeepSeek, имена отправителей не передаются. Учётных записей, серверов и аналитики нет. Подробнее в PRIVACY.md.

Talkmancer это независимый фанатский проект, он не связан с Blizzard Entertainment и не одобрен ею. Используйте на свой риск.

Building from source

• Offline engine: bash engine/build-engine.sh on Linux with cmake, ninja-build, g++-mingw-w64-x86-64-posix, patch and curl. It downloads pinned sources and writes bin/talkmancer-mt.exe. Protocol and details: engine/README.md.
• App, installer and release files: bash tools/release.sh with Go 1.24, lua5.1 and zip. It runs the tests and writes Talkmancer-Setup.exe, Talkmancer-portable.zip and Talkmancer-addon.zip to dist/release.
• Interface texts are in tools/i18n (app) and tools/i18n-addon (addon); tools/gen_i18n.py and tools/gen_addon_i18n.py regenerate the code from them.

Releases are built by GitHub Actions from a version tag (.github/workflows/release.yml).
