💻 I'm James. I am an ML researcher, PhD at UCL Center of AI and formerly at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where I graduated with First Class Honours and the Ho Family Prize.

🧠 I work with Emtiyaz Khan at RIKEN's Advanced Intelligence Project on approximate Bayesian inference. My research spans ML theory, variational methods, and philosophy of science — with two recent papers accepted to ICML 2026: an oral on SVRG and Beyond via Posterior Correction and a workshop paper on Explanation in an Emerging Science of Large Language Models.

🚀 I'm Co-founder and CTO of Aether Space, a space brokerage and rideshare optimisation company — we match satellite operators to launch vehicles and optimise multi-payload manifests across cislunar logistics.

🔬 Previously: ICLR 2021 publication on refining samples from generative models with Prof. Harold Soh; Google Summer of Code contributor to Kevin Murphy's ProbML textbook; DSO National Laboratories Young Defence Scientist Programme back in JC.
