Multiple Media

Images, audio files, and videos accept a string, a structured object, or an array containing either form. Structured properties are always emitted directly after their root media tag, regardless of object key order.

ogPlugin({
  basic: {
    title: 'My website',
    type: 'website',
    url: 'https://example.com',
    image: [
      {
        width: 1200,
        url: 'https://example.com/cover.jpg',
        height: 630,
        alt: 'Homepage cover',
      },
      {
        url: 'https://example.com/secondary.jpg',
        alt: 'Secondary cover',
      },
    ],
  },
});

The object form is recommended for images because it associates alt text and other structured properties with the correct image. A string image remains supported for compatibility, but produces a non-blocking warning because it cannot include og:image:alt.

Object Types

Use the object section for namespaced Open Graph metadata. Its type field automatically generates og:type and narrows the available fields in TypeScript.

ogPlugin({
  basic: {
    title: 'Vite 8 Released',
    url: 'https://example.com/posts/vite-8',
    image: {
      url: 'https://example.com/vite-8.jpg',
      alt: 'Vite 8',
    },
  },
  object: {
    type: 'article',
    publishedTime: '2026-08-27T10:00:00+08:00',
    author: [
      'https://example.com/authors/alice',
    ],
    section: 'Technology',
    tag: ['Vite', 'Frontend'],
  },
});

Object references such as article:author, video:director, and music:musician are absolute HTTP(S) URLs. Properties that carry structured metadata accept an object form:

ogPlugin({
  basic: {
    title: 'Example episode',
    url: 'https://example.com/episodes/1',
    image: {
      url: 'https://example.com/episodes/1.jpg',
      alt: 'Example episode',
    },
  },
  object: {
    type: 'video.episode',
    actor: [
      {
        url: 'https://example.com/actors/alice',
        role: 'Lead',
      },
    ],
    duration: 1800,
    series: 'https://example.com/shows/example',
  },
});

This keeps video:actor:role directly after its associated video:actor. Music album and song references use the same object form with url, disc, and track fields.

Supported object types are website, profile, article, book, music.song, music.album, music.playlist, music.radio_station, video.movie, video.episode, video.tv_show, and video.other.

Existing basic.type configurations remain supported. When object is configured, object.type is used as the effective og:type; a conflicting basic.type produces a warning without blocking the build.

Validation

When basic or object metadata is provided, the plugin validates the four required Open Graph properties (title, type, image, and url) as well as configured HTTP(S) URLs, MIME types, object references, dates, and positive integers. Invalid metadata produces a warning without blocking the Vite build:

ogPlugin({
  basic: {
    title: 'My website',
    type: 'website',
    image: {
      url: 'https://example.com/cover.jpg',
      alt: 'My website cover',
    },
    url: 'https://example.com',
  },
});

Twitter-only and Facebook-only configurations do not require a basic section and do not produce missing-property warnings.

Types

You can consult the .d.ts file to see more descriptions of the fields when develop.
