how to build with parcel for GitHub pages

Building production into dist folder

sudo parcel build index.html --public-url https://cityscope.media.mit.edu/CS_CityScopeJS_UI/

Deploying dist to GitHub Pages

Step 1

Remove the dist directory from the project’s .gitignore (or skip and force-add afterwards).

Step 2

Make sure git knows about your subtree (the subfolder with your site).

git add dist

or force-add it if you don't want to change your .gitignore

git add dist -f

Step 3

Commit!

git commit -m "gh-pages commit"

Step 4

Use subtree push to send it to the gh-pages branch on GitHub.

git subtree push --prefix dist origin gh-pages

Step 4.1

If this gets an error [see below], try force push:

git push origin `git subtree split --prefix dist master`:gh-pages --force
