- Add the mod to a new world.
- Once loaded in, customise your settings and explore the how to play menu.
- When ready, press play levels or play sandbox, then you will be directed to select a level or customise the level (in sandbox mode).
- Then you pick a class to play as, each class offers a different play style!
- Once the round begins, you must kill a certain amount of enemies to complete the level without dying in 60 seconds.
- Watch out for the random waves!
- The Knight class focuses on melee based combat with dashing like movement thanks to the battleaxe and sword special abilities.
- The Archer class focuses on ranged based combat with a melee club for fast moving entities.
- The Warrior class focuses on heavy-hitting melee combat with very little movement options.
- The Shifter class focuses on shapeshifting where you can turn into a bird, mouse, frog and dog!
Level progression mode: Progress through the levels, to unlock more challenging levels with new mob types. Class equipment gets upgraded every 5 levels!
Sandbox mode: Fully customise your experience by choosing which enemies you face, how many and how many kills you need for victory! You also get to pick your class and class level to spice up gameplay even more!
Arachnophobia mode: When turned on, spiders can't spawn in random waves and gets replaced with another NPC type so people who have an intense fear of spiders can play safely.
Easy mode: When turned on, the player recieves a regeneration boost to make the game easier and more enjoyable for those who aren't too competitive.
This experience was originally designed for singleplayer only, but during development, I wanted to play my creation with my friends so I decided to work on multiplayer support!
In singleplayer, you have access to both the level progression mode and the sandbox mode and can switch between the 2 whenever you wish! If you die, you instantly loose the round!
In multiplayer, the first person to join the world is crowned "Player One" and they have control over all options and which mode everyone plays.
Other players still get to pick their own classes though. A UI pops up whenever a round is in progress or when "Player One" is selecting what to play.
You still have access to both modes in multiplayer, with a few differences, only Player One gets to customise sandbox waves, while other players can only pick classes and the class level they play as. In level progression modes, the waves scale to match the player count of the server and every player has infinite lives besides "Player One", so make sure you protect the leader!
Multiplayer is designed for small sessions with your friends, not huge servers.
(Note: You can download the Curseforge app to streamline this process)
- Download the .jar file from the official Curseforge page
- Move the .jar into the mods directory for Hytale
- Boot the game and create a new world
- When creating the new world, modify world settings to add the mod to the world
- Once the world is created you will see the Topdown Arena start menu, this menu will help guide you through the game!
- (Optional) I recommend looking at the How To Play screen and the Options menu before playing!
Thank you EiraEnder for helping me playtest multiplayer and create all showcase videos for this mod! A special thanks to the creators of this website "https://hytale.ellie.au/" as I used this tool to help me create several UIs within the mod.
