• No need for steps 1-3. XO gives a link to download the tarball and you just drag/drop it to install

The reasons for steps 1-3 are because those steps expressly worked, but you downloaded and dragged and dropped the vddk file where?

Yeah I definitely didn't go through that approach, I went down the path of a new installation, didn't even think to check the existing installation for this process.

That would explain your screenshot.
