PipeFlow Headloss Calculator

Engineer-led AI for transparent preliminary hydraulic checks.

PipeFlow is a reviewable Excel workflow for preliminary full-pipe pressure-flow and circular gravity-pipe checks. Inputs, formula paths, warnings, sensitivity, and validation evidence remain visible so an engineer can inspect the calculation—not merely accept an output.

This repository is a public technical showcase. The commercial workbook and proprietary distribution files are not included.

What the workflow does

  1. Defines pipe geometry, flow, roughness, fittings, and boundary assumptions.
  2. Calculates velocity and Reynolds number.
  3. Resolves friction using Darcy–Weisbach with a Colebrook–White workflow.
  4. Adds minor losses and elevation change to form a preliminary total dynamic head check.
  5. Runs sensitivity cases so the controlling assumptions are visible.
  6. Keeps warnings, scope exclusions, and verification evidence beside the result.

Why it is useful

Many spreadsheet calculators produce a number without making the review path obvious. PipeFlow is designed around the opposite principle: the engineer should be able to trace the inputs, understand which assumptions move the result, and identify when the workbook is outside its intended scope.

Visual workflow

2. Inspect the calculated result and warnings

3. Test sensitivity instead of trusting a single case

Methods represented

  • Darcy–Weisbach headloss
  • Reynolds-number regime check
  • Colebrook–White friction workflow
  • Local/minor losses
  • Circular gravity-pipe Manning flow
  • Preliminary pump TDH support
  • Sensitivity and engineering QA

Engineering boundary

PipeFlow is a preliminary design aid, not a final design, permitting, code-compliance, surge, network-simulation, or professional-approval tool. Project criteria, material condition, applicable codes, exceptional cases, and final approval remain the engineer's responsibility.

Current public status

  • Technical showcase: available in this repository
  • Worked video demonstration: being prepared for the PIN HYDRO AI channel
  • Commercial workbook: not distributed from this repository
