Tutorial
maps.iplabs.ink is an advanced tool designed for generating Splatoon tournament map lists. The main purpose of this platform is to assist organizers in creating varied and high-quality map lists compatible with any tournament style. The creation of a map list on this platform is rather straightforward, involving the following steps:
- First, decide your map pool, which includes choosing which maps you would and would not like to be included in your list.
- Next, create the rounds for your map list, this includes deciding the name of the round, the play style (whether it's 'best of' or 'play all') and how many games the round will contain.
- Lastly, determine which map/mode combinations will be played in each round- Or let the app generate those for you.
- The difference between a map pool and a map list
- Map Pools provide the selection of maps permitted for each game mode.
- Map lists consist of a sequence of map/modes that are generally followed in the progression of a tournament.
- Counterpicks: In a tournament setting, these are typically games where a team, following a loss, can choose the map and mode in an attempt to gain an advantage. In the context of this application, counterpicks serve a specific function - they fill in the gap when no map or mode has been previously determined. This means that if a game has neither a specified map nor mode, it is automatically considered a counterpick game in the application.
On the left side of the application, you can find all the options to set up your map pool.

To choose maps for your pool, select the game mode you want to include maps for. You will then see a new screen filled with checkboxes representing different maps. By ticking these boxes, you include those maps in the respective mode's pool.

Continue this process until you've included all the maps you want in your map pool.
To begin building a map list, you need to add a new round first.

When you add a new round, you're automatically taken to the round's edit mode. In this mode, you can modify the round's name, define the play style as either 'best of' or 'play all', and decide the number of games in that round. You can also adjust the round's order in the map list or remove it completely.

Once you've saved your settings, you will then be directed to the standard round view. Here, you have the option to specify which map and mode combinations should be included in your map list. To do this, simply click on the text of the mode (or counterpick if there is no mode) you wish to modify. This will allow you to select a map from those available in the map pool of that mode.

The 'Generate' feature enables you to systematically insert map/mode combinations from your pool into your scheduled rounds. With this tool, you can specify whether the generator should replace all games, only switch out counterpicks, or only change non-counterpicks. You also have the option to designate which modes the generator can use. Additionally, you can configure specific settings for each round. For instance, the "do not modify" option will prevent the generator from altering that round, while the "counterpick" choice will generate the first game and populate the remaining games with counterpicks.
The 'Stats' function provides you with a visual representation of the frequency of each map's appearance in respective modes. You have the flexibility to choose which rounds the statistics will draw data from.
Reset will remove all rounds from the map list. The map pool will be unaffected by this.

By pressing the 'Share link to view' button, your map list is opened in a "viewer" page. This page displays a simplified view of your map pool and map list, making it an ideal option for sharing due to its easy navigation. Anyone who has access to the viewer link can also access the editor, where they can create and customize their own versions of the map pool and map list.
Clicking on this option will format your map list for a Discord message. You can effortlessly copy this formatted text and share it directly in a Discord chat.
If the streamer for your tournament uses IPL Overlay Controls, clicking this feature will generate a downloadable file. The streamer can import this file directly into IPL Overlay Controls, enabling them to integrate round data into the live stream.
Beneath the map pool selectors in the editor, you will find an option to create a "Map Pool Graphic".

On this page, you have the power to design a visually appealing map pool graphic to share with tournament participants. It provides you with options to modify certain color elements and the sequence of maps featured in the graphic. Once you've finalized your design, simply click "Save As Image" to download a high-resolution image of your customized map pool graphic.
